The Library is nice, but the Opera house not so much. It looks and feels like a HQ for an airline. Most disappointing bldg I saw on my trip to Copenhagen.

I personally belive, lol, that a "cool" building must be one that can stay cool by it self... an this one can xD

T4 BARAJAS - Richard Rogers

Tadao Ando is one of my favorite architects, check him out!

And Peter Zumthor too!

I can live with that opinion. Royal library is great. Opera House is nice. I liked the shape, but as you say, could be an HQ of something.

Putrajaya Waterfront Residential

- 2007 International competition, first prize
- Architect :Manfredi Nicoletti and Luca Nicoletti -
Studio Nicoletti Associati; with: Hijjas Kasturi Associates

Complex resembles fleet of sail boats

The city of Putrajaya is the new administrative capital of Malaysia, a few miles North of Kuala Lumpur. The new city is based on a system of connected islands created by overflowing a very large plantation of oil palms. The Public Administration buildings are in the centre of the islands, the residential units face the water. The main residential complex is conceived like a fleet of majestic Sail-Boats floating in the lagoon. The rib-like structural system forms the outer skin of the Sail-Boats and gives an important contribution to shadow the inner spaces of the various apartments without interfering with the view of the artificially created lagoon. All the apartments face the opposite sides of the Sail-Buildings as to create bilateral ventilation, with positive bioclimatic effects

My choices

Here are a few of my votes for "coolest" building. These will all be in the "Built" category. I'll post "unbuilt" later.

Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision
Architect: Neuteling Riedjik
Amsterdam
I went there last summer. Well worth the trip. The glasswork of color and texture on the outside is amazing.

Sudwestmetall
Architect: Allmann Sattler Wappner

Museum Bregenz
Architect: Peter Zumthor
Looks simple, but the section is complex.

Glass Cube
Architect: 3deluxe

Porche Museum - Stuttgart
Architect: Delugan Meissl

Cooper Union
Architect: Morphosis

Well... The thread is "coolest," not "most beautiful."

I don't think the photos of the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision do it justice. The light as it plays on and through the surface is amazing. I couldn't figure out how to load any of my personal images from my computer, so I had to rely on ones I found on the web. If you like the Museum Bregenz (which is definitely one of my all time top ten), then I think you would like NISV.

Cooper Union is not beautiful per se, but I think it is cool.

Sudwestmetall has interesting tactility at its base, and the light through that screen is really dynamic.

You can probably tell from my choices that I'm into light-altering surfaces.
