Taipei now has a wifi network throughout the city. Other cities seem to be investigating the possibility of following suit and it will be a significant technological change if it becomes a trend worldwide. Think about the added convenience of constant connectivity even when moving around the city.

In Asia Shanghai, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore are more urbanized than Dubai. Hence, it makes more futuristic impression. Dubai is more tropic oriented city with many trees and sands. Singapore has tropic climate as well, yet it is more urbanized with modern buildings that is a long way from flavor of tropic resort oriented city.
Trees in the city is ok, but they lose city futuristic appearances.

Shanghai, Dubai, HK, Tokyo, Shenzhen, KL, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah, (Moscow to be among them within 10 years). As for NYC and most every European skyline, they're absolutely beautiful and will always be treasured for threir wealth and architectural value, but they are not modern. Most stuff in NYC was built between 1890's and 1930's, most stuff in Europe around the same time or earlier. La Defense is stunning, tho.

I think London is the most futuristic city on earth.
Look at these pics:

Source: digital exposure (from the movie "children of men")

Okay, fun aside, IMO Tokyo is currently the most futuristic city. The standard of living seems so progressive.

Right know (13th November 2006)

Tokyo by far.

For the people voting for Dubai:

I was in Dubai, i love Dubai and i will visit Dubai in 135 days again because i love Dubai.
Dubai is vibrant, beautiful, a real city, booming, peaceful ...... but Dubai doesn`t feel futuristic. If you visit Dubai you see expensive cars, nice people, a big amount of gold, a beautiful beach with crystal clear water. You see cranes everywhere. You can hear the sound of construction in every part of the city. But you don`t have the feeling that you are in the most modern city in the world. I think in 5 years this will change but right now, Dubai behind Hong Kong, Osaka and Seoul in terms of a futuristic city.

Tokyo right now.

But in 5-8 years I'd vote for Dubai easily. If even 50% of their planned projects are completed in the mentioned time range I'd still say Dubai would be the most futuristic city. I'm not going to even say why as this site usually dominated by Dubai based projects anyways.

City's to look out for:

Beijing
Hong Kong
Kuala Lampur
Istanbul!!!!!! <---------this city is....WOW

Cities that have HUGE futuristic projects planned for to be complete in the next 5 years but get no recognition on these user lists:

Jeddah
Riyadh
Doha
Kuwait City
