You've got some good points.

I'd say Shanghai and Hong Kong are most modern looking.

IMHO
dubai has the tallest skyscapers in the world, madmade islands, most luxurious hotels, biggest mall, biggest fountain, biggest manmade forest, the best of the best this world can have, so i think thats futuristic, maybe it doesnt look futuristic now but after few years more, if its all finished, many tourist will go there to see how dubai transformed to a desert city, to a futuristic city.

And what is the best of the best they have? (except big malls and tall buildings, don't know if the best arhitecture)

- Best University?
- Best Hospitals?
- Best Museums and Theatres?
- Best Metro Network?
- Best Sport Teams?
- Best Road and Motorway System?

----------------------------------------------------

Shanghai Elevated Road. (one of the 6)

These are most likely the ridiculousest examples about the definition of "futuristic" that I've ever heard in my life.

Thats my idea of a present day city. Full of flaws and completely contributing to damaging the planet irrevocably.
My hopes for futuristic cities arere that they will be:

Sustainable

Compact

walkable with good public transport

respectful of heritage and good recycling of old buildings

green!

I would say the most futiistic cities by that definition are ones a bit like this - I can only hope this is a vision of the future:

I completely agree with you.

quite nice.上海还有很多破房子要赶快拆除,建造些低层也好.即使不建新的高楼,改造下会好很多。

as of right now in terms of physical aspect. hong kong is the most futuristic city so far. But in terms of infrastructure and technological advancement Japan(tokyo) leads the way... Dubai is just a flock of hotels and ther feats of engineering which are making it very progressive, its not quite "futuristic", but surely we have to keep the eye on it.

The way I refer the term futuristic is through the means of technological advancement in whatever field not just in Buildings.
  • Advancement of Movil Infrastructure
  • Advancement of Communication Infractructure
  • Medical Technology (Bionic Materials, Cultivation of Human Organs)
  • Technological advancement in Architecture Design

this is just a sample...

I agree that the future doesn't necessarily has be tall skyscrapers, simply because this image of the future was mostly cultivated by Hollywood. However, classifying classical buildings as futuristic or an urbanistic scenarios is quite erroneous imo.

It really doesn’t. Unless of course you think the future consists of a whole load of hugely environmentally damaging white elephants, built by slave labour, dependant on the car and consuming enormous amounts of energy in an attempt to make an otherwise entirely hostile environment almost a bearable place to live for a few ignorant morons. Simply because a few monumentally wealthy people wish it to happen. It’s the most pointless, soulless, depressing place on the planet and it literally makes me despair for the collective ignorance and stupidity which enables it to gain acceptance. Dubai is the greatest demonstration of the power of marketing there has ever been convincing a whole load of morons that its somehow the greatest city on earth. I have been wondering if anyone would really miss it if it just disappeared in a cloud of its own pointlessness. I certainly wouldn’t.

FOR THE LAST F**KING TIME IT AINT THE FUTURE IF YOU THINK IT IS I THINK YOU’RE AN IDIOT.
