i respect everyone's opinion, but how the hell can anyone think that Dubai is most futuristic? come on!
tall and good skyline isn't everything!
you want to say that this one street in the middle of desert

is more futuristic than that?

Maybe because you are not being aloud to kiss each other in public...

now back to earth:
Tokyo is the most futuristic city, Dubai can win only the most excesive and excentric city.

I don't think Dubai is the most futiristic city, but WOW. That's one of a kind scene. Absolutely beautiful.

A sound barrier for shops in Tokyo? Very unlikely.

Most likely.. it's just for show.

(Dubai's night view)

Yes..Dubai would need more density to have more impressive view.
Plus, in Dubai, I think the offices' light is turned off in very early hours because they don't work till late and go home very early. That also makes the night view less impressive.

But I love that heavenly scene with the buildings above the cloud. The fog seems to appear often in the morning in Feb/Mar. I could not land on Dubai International Airport before because of the fog, but the scenery was breathtaking.

that post is more appropriate for a "best skyline" or "most beautiful skyline" thread in my opinion. Having a futuristic city is completely different, it even can have no skyscrapers whatsoever...

1. That picture is a several years old vision... the curent project is different. (more "decent" and realistic)

2. They don't have as much money as you think, the city was built a lot by foreign investors money, because if where only "Dubai money" this financiar crisis would not affect Dubai (and as you can see, a lot of projects are on-hold, even canceled, because a big part of the money comme from other countries banks)

I would say most futuristic cities in the world are Hong Kong,Singapore,Tokio and Seoul (mostly asian cities).

Cities like Dubai,Shanghai are mostly under construction. But in 10-15 years they also will be very futuristic.

Dubai does have an interesting retro-futuristic quality to it, as people imagined the future maybe 50 years ago.

..at least when it comes to its skyline and layout.

Measuring futuristicism (not a real word) of a city, Dubai tops the list why? It pushes the boundary for architecture. Never before we imagine buildings and structures to be so "fantasy" like. Dubai is also constructing a modern MRT system that will briskly take its gorgeous citizens around the futuristic metropolis. There are many world class night clubs, movie theater, the world's biggest mall to entertain visitors and locals alike. No wonder Dubai is synonymous with the word "futuristic."

I'm gonna go with Dubai and Doha in Qatar, just because they have grown so fast in the span of less than ten years, and the progress has been impressive to say the least. The amount of money in that region will also give more options to build original and futuristic infrastructures. Sure a lot of Dubai looks like one big construction site right now, but I am more than eager to see what it will look like in ten years time. The same goes for Qatar which is investing in many unconventional and forward looking projects, and has so far breezed past the current economic crisis with minimal damage.

Another thing is flexibility which the Gulf region has compared to place like Shanghai or Hong Kong, not to take away from these two places, because they are epic when it come to infrastructure. I just think it would be a shame and a mistake to dismiss Dubai simply as just a city with just a bunch really tall buildings in the middle of a desert.
