Langkawi-Kuala Perlis Bridge Among RM130bil Investment in Perlis
Friday, 20 August 2010 20:17 http://malaysiandigest.com/news/36-l...in-perlis.html KANGAR, 20 AUGUST, 2010: A proposal to build a 48km bridge linking Langkawi and Kuala Perlis is among several projects worth RM130 billion being planned by two local companies in Perlis. Juruelit Sdn Bhd executive chairman Kamarudin Husin said the company has adequate capital to implement the projects along with construction of a monorail bridge. Juruelit, in partnership with Kalammas Sdn Bhd, will hand in the proposal papers for the "Royal Western Coastal Corridor" project to the state government next month. The thrust of the massive project is to develop Kuala Perlis into a modern commercial hub, he told reporters after signing a memorandum of understanding for the RM130 billion start-up capital for the mammoth project. Kamarudin said his company was also ready to undertake coastal land reclamation to create two man-made islands, each measuring five square kilometres, near Kuala Perlis. The two islands will have modern ports, hi-tech industrial parks and residential estates, Kamarudin said. "We are also studying economic potentials in Wang Kelian, Bukit Putih and Padang Besar," he said. Kalamas managing director Datuk Raden Mas Hilmi Mat Som said his company, an experienced developer and construction contractor, has the expertise and capacity to implement the mammoth project. "We have strong finances to implement the projects. We are ready to present the project proposal papers to the state government for consideration," he added after signing the MoU with Kamarudin.

i don't think this mega project will be approved by the govt...it may greatly boost the coastal area of k.perlis n its surrounding, but langkawi will lost its purity n tranquility as the island is congested n polluted...

kuala perlis-langkawi bridge doesn't bring anything to perlis... dumb gomen!!
perlis development may need services and commercials concentrated in kangar, and state logistics center and industry center concentrated in bukit keteri-chuping and arau. industry concentrated in bukit keteri and arau because of proximity to railway, easy for frieght. a single track electrified railway can be built to connect from arau to kuala perlis if perlis gomen wants all perlis goods to be exported through kuala perlis port instead of butterworth port. this railroad serves domestic trains from kuala perlis to arau in 2-3hr frequency, 1 express train from KL (senandung langkawi), frieght trains in night. state road R145 should be the boundary between kangar commercial area and arau industrial area. arau industrial area should concentrated at the west side of the existing railroad. main industry in perlis should be argiculture based industry, or import things from south thailand and manufacture, then export back to thailand.

Our former PM, Tun Dr Mahathir opposes this plan, citing the damage the bridge would done to the natural beauty of Langkawi.
And yes, the article does not mention the government as a stakeholder in this project. |

Dr M against Langkawi bridge project
August 24, 2010, Tuesday http://www.theborneopost.com/?p=60925 LANGKAWI: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad is against the proposed Langkawi bridge project as it will erode the island’s unique features.“Langkawi must remain as an island and unsuitable to be turned into a land mass,” he told reporters after presenting chocolates and cash to 120 orphans and special children at Masjid Istiqamah in Kuala Teriang here Sunday night. Two companies based in Perlis had proposed building a 48km bridge linking Langkawi to Kuala Perlis on the mainland. Juruelit Sdn Bhd executive chairman Kamarudin Husin said on Friday the company had enough funds to build the project which includes a monorail bridge. On another note, Tun Mahathir said he was disappointed that Muslims had become enemies just because they had different views. He added as fellow Muslims they should not turn bitter enemies as it would divide and weaken them. The former premier cautioned that this could result in Muslims losing power in their own land. Tun Mahathir and wife Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali later joined 500 Muslims for buka puasa, maghrib, isyak and tarawih prayers. — Bernama

October 17, 2010 19:10 PM http://www.bernama.com/bernama/state...=536168&cat=nt KANGAR, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- Perlis is set to become a producer of paprika chilli with an area covering 0.4 hectares in Sungai Batu Pahat near here being earmarked for planting of the crop next year. Nazri proposes food warehouse for Perlis
Tuesday November 16, 2010 http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp...448&sec=nation KANGAR: A warehouse to store food in readiness for floods is being proposed for Perlis, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz said. He said the warehouse would enable swift distribution of food to flood victims as relief agencies and workers would not have to wait for supplies from elsewhere. “We should learn from the major floods that Perlis had just experienced and note that such natural disasters cannot really be predicted,” he told reporters after a post-flood briefing here yesterday. Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu and State Secretary Datuk Azizan Hamid gave the briefing at the state assembly complex. Nazri noted that Kedah already had a warehouse in Bedong to store food during floods. He said Perlis should have a similar warehouse, which would be essential if land links were cut off during floods. He was glad that Perlis faced no food shortage during the floods. In fact, he said it had surplus supplies because of contributions from various quarters, including private companies and non-governmental organisations. “The state government was able to handle problems without any outbreak of disease or loss of life during the one week that the state was hit by floods,” he added. Nazri said the Perlis government had requested financial assistance for flood-mitigation projects, including the building of dams and the deepening of rivers. Md Isa said the state government would submit a report on the floods, including the losses suffered, to the Federal Government by the end of the month. — Bernama

Kubang Gajah Will Turn Into A New Development Area In Perlis
March 01, 2011 18:53 PM KANGAR, March 1 (Bernama) -- Kampung Kubang Gajah near here will turn into a new development area in Perlis when the state's largest inter-housing development project gets underway on over 54 hectares of abandoned padi field. A total of 1,508 units of houses and shop lots will be developed by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) in collaboration with Perlis Holding Sdn Bhd under the affordable home programme. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu, who launched the ground-breaking ceremony of the RM180 million project here today, also expressed confidence the project would be accepted by the public as it would offer affordable homes and shop lots at a price of between RM42,000 and RM218,000 each. He said the project, which would be implemented in four phases, was expected to be completely ready in six years. Meanwhile, SPNB managing director Prof Datuk Dr Kamarul Rashdan Salleh said the first phase would involve the construction of 572 unit of houses, comprising low-cost, linked and semi detached houses as well as shop lots at a cost of RM60 million. He said the project was supposed to be implemented in 2006, but several problems, including in land acquisitions, had put it on hold for over four years. Kamarul Rashdan said under the programme, SPNB, which was established in 1997, had built 35,000 affordable homes for the people nationwide. He said SPNB had also built 15,109 houses nationwide under its "Rumah Mesra Rakyat" programme for the underprivileged so far. In Perlis alone, a total of 286 houses have been built under the programme, while the construction of 39 others are ongoing, he added. -- BERNAMA

Chuping Valley development to become economic hub in Perlis
By Bernama Monday, 25 April 2011 18:15 KANGAR: The Chuping new town development, to be called "Chuping Valley" is expected to become the economic hub of Perlis said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu on April 25. Md Isa said Chuping Valley would be developed as a logistic support centre to compliment Padang Besar which has grown into a booming economic centre in the north border. Speaking at the Perlis Malay Chamber of Commerce's (DPMM) 35th Annual General Meeting today, Md Isa urged the people to take advantage of the opportunities available. He said development in Chuping Valley would also change the landscape of Chuping, known for its sugar cane plantations. "Malay entrepreneurs and businessmen must seize the opportunities available in the new development which will comprise an area of 1,000 hectares and include government institutions, resettlements, industries, business centres and theme parks," he said. Perlis' presence in the North Corridor Economic Region (NCER) will bring about a form of transformation and develop sectors like farming, manufacturing, logistics and tourism, he said. -- Bernama |

Hi guys, long time no see, wish me good luck because i am now in Mumbai.....
back to topic, if Thailand HSR is build to connect Padang Besar Thailand to BKK, i think Malaysia side will be have intention to extend Mr Najid suggested Penang-Singapore HSR to Padang Besar (Msia) - Singapore HSR and finally become Kunming - Bangkok - Kuala Lumpur - Singapore HSR. at that time, Perlis will be able to develop in fast pace. (maybe after 15 years....) Whatever thing that not suppose to have for development...but Perlis have it... Small, Less Population, Not in Strategy/Idea Location, No Natural Resource, |
