I just curious, most of the residents in London's Chinatown came from HK or are Cantonese speakers? I heard that there is a significant number of Hong Kong Chinese who have emigrated to Great Britain after the HK handover.

An interesting one, Chinatown in Yokohama

Chinese or Japanese?

Soho doesn´t look like a chinatown at all, if it wasn´t for the chinese gate(which is not so impressive) i wouldn´t think it would be a chinatown...

Most Chinese all over the UK are from Hong Kong and are Cantonese speakers.

Here is Manchester Chinatown in the UK:

Paris 13th is definitely not the biggest Chinatown in Europe. It may be the most sprawled but most of the area on your map is not even recognisable as a "Chinatown" at all. You could walk through without realising you were in a Chinese district at all. Most of is is quiet residential streets and most of the residents are non-Chinese. It has none of the bustle, colour, and life that typify Chinatowns elsewhere. There are no gates and only one small intersection which even vaguely resembles what most people understand by the word "Chinatown". London's Soho Chinatown is far denser and livelier and has far more restaurants and businesses than Paris 13th. Also the other so-called "Chinatowns" in Paris are even smaller concentrations of E/SE people and businesses - and not necessarily Chinese. If I used a comparably generous definition of a "Chinatown" for London there would be loads of them - Queensway, Finchley Road, Oriental City in Colindale, Wing Yip centres, Vietnamese in Shoreditch, Koreans in New Malden, Thais in Wimbledon, Filipinos in Golders Green etc etc.

As usual Monkey has to come up with some bulls**t against my post

Why is definitely not the biggest Chinatown in Europe??

Do any research and tell me then which one is the biggest Chinatown in Europe if not the one in Paris 13th. (it's a chinatown even though does not have the "gates" )Just do a quick research on google and you will tell me....

Obviously London Chinatown is far denser than the Paris 13th, just because the London one is so small compared to the one in Paris!! The main street (which someone has posted some pics) is not longer than 200m!! And I would say it's a trap for tourists, attracted by the gates.

The other 3 chinatowns in Paris (just Paris! Not including any other chinese neighbourhood on the outskirt!) are not so small (a part the one in the 18th district!):

the one in Belleville is made of 2 main streets and several secondary street and believe me it's not at all so small: there are easily more than 50 rsts, many shops and several chinese stores.

The one in the 3th district (Art&Metiers) has a very high concentration of chinese import-export shops, other than restaurants. Moreover it's probably the oldest chinese community in Paris, having settled down since the beginning of last century.

And I dare to say the chinese community in Paris is the biggest in Europe: I remember reading somewhere there are almost 1 milion of chinese people (including descendants) living in France and I would say the most are located in Ile de France (Paris metro area).

Chinatown is not actually soho, it's a part of soho. Here are some pics inside:

This is the arch in Philadelphia's Chinatown:

The other chinatown that I am in regularly is Hoston's; however, it isn't like other chinatowns in the sense that it isn't urban. Its not what most people think off when they think 'china town'. Its less of a town than a 4 mile strip of Bellaire Road that is lined with LOADS of Chinese shopping centers. They have tons of Chinese/Vietnamese/and Thai resturaunts. Really its more of an 'Asia Town' than a ChinaTown so to speak.

So Chinatowns are more like old street level shopping districts with Chinese people. In fact, there are also Chinatowns in almost all Chinese cities - the same kind of street level low storey shopping districts.

^ I think a Chinatown has to be outside of China to be a Chinatown. They're essentially concentrations of overseas Chinese people and businesses.
