It is possible to break 280m limit in CBD.

It can be solved if the Government really decides to shut down Paya Lebar Airport and relocates all facilities that are home to Republic of Singapore Air Force and Singapore Technologies Aerospace Engineering to other air bases and Changi Airport including the new air base being constructed at Changi East on reclaimed land off Changi.

If this happens, the limit of building height will be lifted.

If you look at the development around Paya Lebar Airport. It is really getting crowded with developments in forms of residental, commerical and industrial.

Furthermore 3000 km runway is being constructed on reclaimed land off Changi. It is enough for military transport planes like C130, Fokker 50 and KC 135R to land there. Fighter planes normally dun need long runway to take off or land. They can take off 1/2 of the 3000 km runway.

This sparks off my suspicion that the Government may cease operating Paya Lebar Airport once Changi East Air Base is ready by end of this year to handle all types of military planes.

Keep our fingers crossed. We may see more skyscrapers breaking the 280m limit.

Central district consists of Queenstown, Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Toa Payoh, Bukit Merah, Tanjong Pagar will get more residentals skyscrapers exceeding 40 stories.

why wasn't it done earlier then

it seems no developer in the near future would really want to build a super tall building? um that's what i imagine... office rents are already so depressed... maybe apartments would work though.

Huge reclaimed land off Changi only started reclaimation at sea since late 1990s. It needs more years for soil to settle in the land before commencing the construction.

Not necessary to build SUPER tall building in Singapore to compete with other countries. Only we run out of lands and we are forced to build more tall skyscrapers exceeding 280m limit. :P

aw not to compete with other countries but just for the novelty of having a 300+m building it gets boring if you know that the three tallest buildings in singapore will always be the three tallest. also fun living in 100 storey apartments

Do you guys remember that saturday not too long ago? It rained heavily non-stop for more than 6 hours. I was in the Marina bay area and looking up at some scrapers. Most were totally concealled by clouds from the 20th to 25th stories up!

Really meh?Clouds THIS low???

I think it's just the sheer heaviness of the rain ,where distant objects are obscure.

It was probably mist.

It's unlikely it was rain lor, because the thing just started suddenly up the building and not smoothly like it would be if it were the rain. It was just awesome.

I agree that we arent exactly interested in some silly WTB competition. It wil realy spoil what we have. What I do hope to see, thou, is a nicely scluptured skyline which dosent look like a horizontal plane, but have its peaks and thoughs. Notice the line of similar0height buildings along the Sg River, for eg?

Pity we cannot build the tallest in the centre of the skyline, since the beautiful OUB Centre takes its place.

I would like the have those twin towers be part of the plan again.

What do you mean?

Anyway ,that time I went to the Menara Kuala Lumpur ,it was a cloudy day ,sky was overcast ,and it was slightly drizzling.

I could literally see above the clouds. It was quite amazing ,a light cloud surrounding the tower ,obscuring the view slightly. The Petronas' tops were in the clouds.

Since the govt keeps on reclaiming land ,it's about time the govt build super-tall flats.Like 60 flrs+.Most of the flats in Sg are only 12 storeys tall.
