Tight Cluster, Multiple Clusters, or A Swath of Madness

One of the most fascinating thing about this world is that different places have different takes on what a skyline should be. So what do you prefer in terms of the appearance of a skyline?

1) Tight Clusters -- some examples are Chicago, LA, La Defense
2) Multiple Clusters -- some examples are Tokyo, Manila, Toronto, New York, and London
3) Massive Seas of buildings -- some examples are Sao Paulo and Beijing

I realize that there are some skylines that cross into more than one category. Hong Kong, for example, has an endless sea of buildings and also an intense main cluster. But just bear with me and try your best to decide.

Tight clusters (I love LA and Singapore) are my favorite. Massive seas are nice if the buildings are relatively nice. I don't like too many gaps (Multiple Clusters) in skylines.

Tight clusters like Minneapolis look great, but it depends a lot on what kind of city you're in.

I like tight clusters although all can look good depending on the curcumstances and city.

They all have their own unique appeal.

I am somewhere between Multiple Clusters and A swath of madness.

I don't like cities with skylines where all the tallest buildings are concentrated in one area and in other areas has no tall buildings at all. I also like ASoM because I don't like skylines which are too organized, just like HKG.

tight clusters, i wish Toronto was one big tight cluster instead of skylines all over the place, its skyline would HUUUUGE if it was all concentrated like Chicago is.

Actually, the main thing that separates Toronto and Chicago's skyline is HEIGHT. Chicago has a lot taller buildings in its main CBD cluster compared to Toronto's. Toronto already has hundreds of buildings downtown but most of them are under 40 storeys. Another thing is that Sears, JHC, and AON, the 3 tallest in Chicago, are all fairly spaced out from each other unlike Toronto's tallest which are within a 3 block area. If all of TO's highrises were one big tight-cluster, it would probably be more like Buenos Aires or Sao Paolo because most of the buildings in the boroughs are short.

I like multiple cluster the most. I find an endless sea of towers is ugly unless if you can see individual towers. That is why I dislike Sao Paulo's skyline. They are all too similar height and becomes very boring. In Hong Kong, there are tall towers that shoot out of a group of shorter tower making it more unique and interesting.
