I believe the big show down is tomorrow night at City Hall. Opposing forces are gathering on both sides of the issue, but the most recent article in the St Pete Times leads me to believe that this will get approved.

Well, it's ok. A bit boxy. And what's with all the highrises in the background - that will help calm people down. . .

It's alright, nothing earth shattering. I'd rather see this one go up than some of the beachy twin tower proposals down the street.

Good looking building. Looks like the park will fall between this and the Meridian. Nice touch for the area. I'll support it.

Yeah. This design looks like it belongs in the city, unlike some of the other proposals.

The park will actually be on 11th Street, in between Lewis' building and the smaller Meridian building.

The Novare tower will be on 12th Street, and will span from the taller Meridian building all the way to Washington St.

The twin circular buildings in the backgroung are Towers @ channelside.IMO

If it doesn't get approved tomorrow, I'll be writing a letter to the council/mayor.

Except the towers are in another direction. I think it is subtle propaganda. Don't get me wrong - I think they should approve it, though it will comletely screw up traffic down tehre - just drive down 12th and realize how narrow the roads are then imagine this on one side and the Place on the other.

I'm digging the red. Hopefully the lower portion will be brick and not red painted stucco. I like the shops at the ground level, and that effect on the corner.

Good project.

Don't salivate too much. I'm not sure what the lawyer was thinking, but he didn't show and this thing is quite a mess for now. Wait a year and see what happens.

This is just crazy.... I doubt this project will happen now, especially with "affordable" units. I'm sure construction costs 12 months from now will either kill or substantially change this project.

Lawyer/Developer made a very bad decision in my opinion... I actually liked the building too.

The developer was 44 minutes late filing the required papers with the city. Because of this, the developer thought their application was "barred" and was not eligible for automatic denial. (Don't forget the city council told the developer if they were not ready this third time, they would deny the project's application).

The difference between being barred and denied is that if the petition is barred, then they only have to wait six months to refile. If the petition is denied, they have to wait 12 months.

Most of city council indicated they saw this delay as an attempt to continue the case, and denied the application. The channelside residents argued the same, and pressed for a denial. The city attorney’s staff had no clue what should be done, so city council denied the application. Even worse, the developer's representative didn't even show up. All the developers rep. sent was a letter at 4:30pm stating there opinion that the case could not be heard.

The only caveat to this is that city council can reduce the time to reapply from 12 months to 6 months if the developer requests them to do so and they agree (some conditions would need to apply, such as a change in the siteplan, etc...).

This surprises me greatly. My opinion of this developer has been very mixed, mostly because of the way they handled sales at Skypoint... Not even having the guts to show up to a meeting that they insisted upon is in my opinion, incredibly rude to city council, the residents, and the public. I think all this developer has done now is upset an already contentious issue, which will make it even tougher for them to now get approval...
