I'm going to be honest; I hate roundabouts.

An artist made this fist as a reminder of the closing of Reanult automobile factory in Brussels. 3100 people lost their jobs and many followed when companies related to factory also had to close their doors... It represents the struggle and the workers Union. The roundabout is in the same area as the factory.

This junction in Dublin, Ireland was completed a few days ago. A bizarre layout. It has a roundabout in the middle. Slip roads swing round the roundabout like an inverted T.

http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=53...382065&zoom=17

It connects the M50 with the N3/M3 National route.

It has triple levels with a railway and canal in the center and a Fitness center in the middle!

I wouldn't use these kind of arrows on roundabouts. They indicate you have to turn off to stay on the roundabout, while the reality is you have to turn off to leave the roundabout.

A rather new roundabout in Tallinn, finished in 2008. It was supposed to be a two-lane roundabout but since none of the roads leading to it have more than 1 lane in each direction(2 lanes exist only next to the roundabout), they decided to keep it as a single lane roundabout for the time being.
BTW, this is also the only roundabout in Estonia that has pedestrians and motorists on different levels.

And a roundabout for pedestrians, too!

That's another point in favor of roundabouts: it's cheaper to provide full grade separation for pedestrians.

Similar arrangements have existed in the UK for years. Here is an example in Swindon - just along from the famous Magic Roundabout (which has been discussed elsewhere on this forum.)

Swindon, Wiltshire, UK

In truth, this design is rarely used these days. The tunnels beneath the roads can become dingy and unwelcoming places for pedestrians, so alternative methods tend to be used now where grade separation for pedestrians is required.
