Habtoor Grand Resort to open tomorrow

Al Habtoor Group is opening the doors of its Dh740 million five-star hotel, Habtoor Grand Resort and Spa, to visitors and tourists tomorrow.
Spread over an area of nearly 30,000 square metres, the 442-room hotel overlooks Dubai Marina, Arabian Gulf and the Palm Jumeirah Island.
The new hotel combines two towers connected to a foyer that houses the lobby, reception, restaurants and the ballroom. All the rooms and suites are equipped with broadband wireless network that gives instant access to the internet.
Due to its location, it is expected to serve both business and leisure travellers. It has its own private beach for the guests, swimming pool as well as well-equipped spa.
The hotel was built on the same site of the erstwhile Metropolitan Beach Hotel and Resort, retaining the challets.
The new hotel is the first opening after the group rebranded its flagship Metro-politan chain to Habtoor Hospitality in March this year. It also houses 13 restaurants, a 1,000-capacity ballroom, meeting and conference facilities and other amenites.
The group owns and manages four hotels in Dubai, two hotels in Lebanon and one in London. It also owns a shopping mall and a theme park Habtoorland in Beirut.
It has invested about Dh1.5 billion in Lebanon.
The group, which has been in Dubai's hospitality industry for the last 26 years, is not planning to venture into hotel management, except for its own properties.
Khalaf Ahmad Al Hab-toor, chairman of the group, said, "We are not going to manage hotels that we do not own. We will continue to build and operate our own hotels and manage them.
"The Habtoor brand has been synonymous with quality and excellence in service for the last 25 years. Naturally, this latest addition to the Habtoor hospitality portfolio will further enhance that reputation."
He said, his company is in an ambitious expansion mode. "We are looking at various projects and will make some announcement soon," he said during the opening of the hotel yesterday.
Work on a 300-room Habtoor Grand Resort The Palm, scheduled to open in 2007, will start before the end of this year, said Rahim Abu Omar, chief executive of Habtoor Hospitality. "We will soon finalise the design work, following which construction work will start. We hope to open the hotel in time by 2007," he said.

Habtoor names DAR to design Jumeirah Palm resort

Dubai: Al Habtoor Group has appointed DAR to design the Dh750 million resort on Jumeirah Palm.

The new resort, which will be managed by Habtoor Hospitality will be located on Plot No 34 on the crescent and total land area is about 50,000 square metres.

The theme of the resort is planned to be a mix of Thai and Balinese in a tropical paradise type setting with low-rise buildings.

The rooms and suites will be spread over the whole land as thatched roof bungalows, some with private swimming pools and gardens, and all with natural tropical plant barriers giving the impression of living in a tropical forest with plants specially imported.

We have a team of specialists studying all the different plants available to ensure they can survive and thrive in Dubai environment.

Walking over the landscape, guests will cross a lot of bridges and come across many ponds, waterfalls and streams.

There will be public pools conveniently located in two areas on the land for guests to have easy access.

The spa will have a variety of treatments rooms, including outdoor where guests can relax in the surrounding landscape during the nice weather.

Other leisure facilities include 3 tennis courts, lap and leisure swimming pools and all the typical recreation facilities, including special play rooms and games facilities for children and even a kid's swimming pool.

The resort will feature 300 rooms including 2 Presidential Suites, 2 Honeymoon Suites and 38 Executive Suites.

Al Habtoor to begin twin Dubai hotel developments

Dubai: UAE-based Al Habtoor group is boosting its hotel presence in Dubai with two new properties and hopes to build a hotel in Abu Dhabi to cater to the capital's growing tourism market.

The company is waiting for the green light from the Palm Jumeirah Island's developer Nakheel to start work on its Dh750-million resort, Al Habtoor chief executive Mohammad Al Habtoor said.

It has also announced plans to build a 100-storey tower in Business Bay that will house a penthouse boutique hotel.

Details of the project are still being worked out and design work is expected to be completed in mid-2007.

"Our hotel room capacity will exceed 2,500 when the Business Bay project is completed," Al Habtoor said. The Al Habtoor Group owns and operates hotels through its subsidiary Habtoor Hospitality.

The company has developed three brands for three different markets. Habtoor Grand Hotels & Resorts are five-star plus properties, while The Metropolitan Palaces are five-star, and the Metropolitans are mid-range hotels.

The group will have 1,700 rooms after the 300-unit tropical-themed resort on the Palm is completed.

"We are working on the design. We are waiting for the Palm infrastructure to be completed," Al Habtoor said.

He said the company is pursuing plans with Abu Dhabi authorities to build a luxury hotel in the capital.

"We have already approached the government. As soon as we find land in an appropriate area, we will start a hotel in Abu Dhabi," he said, adding that the company will consider setting up hotels in other emirates in the future.

The group also has hotel businesses in Britain and Lebanon.

Al Habtoor said the company has so far invested Dh1.32 billion in its Beirut properties that include a luxury hotel and the Habtoorland theme park.

Al Habtoor begins hotel construction

Dubai: Al Habtoor Engineering Enterprises says the company has launched construction of a Dh1.2 billion hotel project on the Palm Jumeirah.

The Al Habtoor Group had finalised plans to purchase a 47,541 square metre plot on the Palm Jumeirah in 2002.

Rahim Abu Omar, the Chief Executive of Habtoor Hotels, said the Habtoor Island Resort & Spa will be the seventh hotel property under the Habtoor Hotels management and is scheduled to open in 2010.

The resort will have 217 rooms and suites, 91 luxury apartments and four exclusive villas.

The rooms and suites will be spread over the whole plot.

Some will have private swimming pools and gardens, and all will have natural tropical plant barriers giving the impression of living in a tropical forest with specially imported plants, Abu Omar said.

The food and beverage facilities include ten themed restaurants and bars.

There will also be a floating seafood restaurant and a rooftop fine dining restaurant.

Conference and banquet facilities include two ballrooms, multifunctional rooms and fitted boardrooms spread over 2,350 square metres.

For leisure facilities, the resort will have an extensive spa and gymnasium facilities spread over 2,000 square metres, swimming pool (lap pool, children's pool and leisure pool).

Tennis courts

The new hotel will have three tennis courts, games rooms and children's playroom.

Al Habtoor Group said it is proud to be an owner of the property in this coveted location.
