Yes there is a render...

In fact there are a couple knocking around somewhere and they are bigger than this but this up-to-date and from the same set i believe..

So who knows anything about construction then? What happens after a tower crane goes up.. are there still lots of things to do with the foundations or can we expect to see steel work flying up during the next couple of months

usually, when the tower crane goes up, a majority of any pilling is done and above ground construction is soon to follow, if nothing else because the crane would get in the way if they still had to dig....

..however, if memory serves, we have a forum who is actuall working on site so he will best answer ur question, just gotta wait for him to come back!

Indeed - although he is a QS so probably doesn't know much about building...

At this stage, I would expect that the piling, mains drainage and main foundations wil have been done (although not necessarily).

Neil will be able to tell us what the structure will be, as I am unsure as to whether it will be steel or concrete frame. As it is quite tall, and the footprint isn't huge, I am guessing concrete, although the advantage steel has is that you can get away with fewer columns, therefore larger uninterrupted floor plates. A tower crane could indicate steel though

Anyhows, the structure should start rising fairly soon - the fact that the tower crane is in place is the giveaway - they cost a couple of grand a week to hire I believe, so they won't have it standing around doing nothing! Concrete can be pumped so it is not really needed for foundations.

PS - only kidding about the building thing Neil

I wandered down to take a look at this site yesterday. The crane was in use but not much was visible.
But then I noticed construction had already got up to the third floor ...

At that rate it'll be finished at the same time as Snow Hill!

Looking good, but I'm not convinced that it's a particularly good fit with the rest of the architecture on the streets it abuts.
