It says "Дом правительства" which means Government building, what does it have to do with Parliament?

And it's quite humiliating to name it White House after American White House. If I was Russian, I would be offended.

I love Bucharest, but the parliament building seems too big. Which is absolutely fine, but I think it should have been closer to the centre. Right now it lokks like something in USA where there is so much space and this mania to build big, but it doesn't seem to have history.

Hollandski: Stas is right-The White House is a GOVERNMENT building.
However, it used to be a Parliament Building in 1991-1993.
Remember when Yeltsin brought tanks to Moskow and stormed it? It was in Oct 1993 and scince then it became the Government House as a symbol of his victory over rebelious Parliament (which was moved to a less prestigious property).

Interesting, I didn't know that. I remember the путч though. It was all over the news in Ukraine.

Where was the main soviet parliament? In the "white house" or that grey building?

Now about Russian Duma this building was build in first years after 1917
in constructivist style so, together with building height was innovation at the time, but by today's tastes it is kind of ugly. Here is better picture

Of course. Совет народных избранников ... or something like that. It wasn't real, but it did exist - because when perestroika started happening, they had the first "free" elections there, in 88? Or some year around there. So we definitely did.

And Ukraine had one too, but main one was in Moscow. Our's was the one that proclaimed sovereignty in 1990.
