@elliot, The Q1 tower is not 240m. its 275m to top of superstructure. its 93m spire isnt added to the top but attached to the side with only half of the spire going past the fin thus reaching 322.5m high. Its not cheating. Its part of the buildings architecture! cheating is a pole siting on top with no architectural merit.
The current most recent worlds tallest apartment building (was 21stC tower in Dubai @ 269m. the tallest apartment tower to the roof was Seouls 264m tower palace 3. so Q1 is higher anyway without the spire.
We all now 297m Eureka will be tallest apartment tower on completion in 2006. it might be getting a 55m mast whcih wont be included in official height.
who really cares if a bldg has a spire or not. cheating? nah. its architecture.
heres a better shot of the mighty Q1.> all finished

For those who dont know this tower is going up against the 267meter 21c tower in dubai which is 23 floors shorter and mostly spire its self ( roof is 189) compared to 240 you claim for Q1 (275m)
So cheater hardly againist it closest current rival !

EDIT: Cul already covered but anyway

Spires can be beautiful! Q1 looks stunning with the spire.

and btw u little whingers, it isnt cheating. Why? BECAUSE ANY BUILDING CAN ADD A SPIRE! ITS FAIR! ADD A SPIRE TO SEARS AND STFU!

I seriously don't see what jealousy has to do with the way how a tower can be seen.

Q1 is actually 245m to the roof, so it currently only the 8th tallest residential tower in the world to ROOF (9th tallest including Eureka which is U/C).

^ But is still much taller "to the roof" then the current title-holder: 21st Century (Dubai) that as Trances mentioned, it is less then 200m.

Q1 is 245m to the LMR. its roof or highest part without spire is 275m.
its silly refering it to 245m when you cant really see where this height is defined. all you see is huge fin structure and spire.
Q1 also has the most floors in a residential building! 80 including 2 basements!
Q1 is clearly the worlds tallest residential building!! hip hip horray

What about Eureka? Isn't that something like 290m to roof? Aswell it's only a matter of time before another world's tallest res comes up in Dubai. 23 marina will be 380m but with a huge spire. It'll probably be around 320m to roof.

im from the UK and i love the AON building. i will be visiting it next month and i can't wait. i've wanted to see it for over twenty years and next month it will happen.

now that the WTC has been destroyed the AON building is the tallest single box in the world isn't it (exluding modular boxes as in Sears tower)?

id like to disagree with you for this one
i think the roof is 240m, and the fin shouldnt be counted as the roof because it has no function, like a spire, its just an architectural eliment. The highest habitable floor will be 240m thus the roof should be 240m.
but still, the q1 is probably the best thing thats happened to goldcoast

As long as its rooftop height surpasses the current WTB, that's all that matters to me.

Let's think wiser.
If u r the builder of the WTB, would u mess with the problem that lead to strong argument like in the case of spire? i means the small differences of height btwn Sears n petronas towers.

For me, I would simply build a tower that would clear the doubts, n securely claim the title. If Petronas has the intention to be WTB, it would not be so stupid to juz surpass a few metres...

Q1 is one of the most beautiful new towers in the world and part of it is because of the tall and elegant spire.

here, without spire it would look dull ,and the spire helps to create the impression of a blowing sail ,which the design ought to suggest.
