Yup... bumped it so people can see the new progress.

Looks like the base building is making good progress. Now you can see how "light" the Flyer looks.

I think the Las Vegas wheel looks OTT. This is a nicer design. KISS ("keep it simple stupid") is the best design principle for observation wheels.

Over 100,000 bookings for S'pore Flyer, due to open 2008

SINGAPORE: If you want an aerial view of Singapore, you do not have to take a plane - all you have to do is enter a "capsule"!

These air-conditioned capsules on the Singapore Flyer, which is set to open in 2008, can go up to a height of about 42 storeys (165m).

Visitors will get a bird's eye view that extends from Changi to Sentosa, and even to parts of Malaysia and Indonesia.

Billed as one of Asia's most iconic attractions, the Singapore Flyer at Marina Bay has 28 capsules.

Each is the size of a single deck bus and can accommodate up to 30 visitors.

The Singapore Flyer can accommodate up to 840 people at one time.

Each ride lasts 37 minutes.

And even before it opens, there are already over 100,000 bookings which means it is fully packed for the first three months of operation.

"We're getting at the moment requests for weddings, breakfast, business meetings in them, lunches, dinners, all sorts. From small groups, from Valentines day dinners with two people, from larger groups coming into town where there are a thousand people. So we are kind of discussing with them what we can offer with our facilities," says David Beevers, General Manager, The Singapore Flyer. - CNA/yy
