Australia All Over

In the tradition of "Best of Britain", "Best of the US" and "Marvels of Sri Lanka" here is "Australia All Over" dedicated to the cities and the landscapes of the great southern land.

PLEASE could we restrict photos to one per post so that its not prohibitively huge for dail-up uses (like me).

Wallaman Falls

At 305 metres, Wallaman Falls on Stony Creek is the tallest clear drop waterfall in Australia, located 48km west of Ingham (which is 110km north of Townsville) in North Queensland. Only the spire of Q1 is taller than this magnificent natural skyscraper.

The magnificent skyline and awesome density of Australia's biggest and most famous city captured by rob.m a couple of years ago.

Should give credit to Locke (not defec, lol) for that last Brisbane one

Ball's Pyramid
The mighty Ball's Pyramid, at about 550m, taller than any skyscraper on Earth, rears out the ocean near Lord Howe Island, off the east coast of Australia.

My intention was for this NOT to be just a photo spam of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide & Perth. I was imagining people would post exceptional or slightly different photos of Australia's cities or photos of one of Australia's lesser known features, whether they be natural or man made - aspects of Australia that are less well known, not just lots of postcard shots of Melbourne. Your 4th one would have been ideal dan (sorry to single you out).

Anyway angry rant over. I suppose once I create a thread I can't really control what direction it should take. Sorry.

Parkes Radio Telescope

In the middle of a sheep paddock in country New South Wales, this radio telescope received the pictures from Apollo 11 during the first moon landing, and was made famous by the movie "The Dish".

Uluru (Ayers Rock)

The second largest monolith in the world (after less dramatically-shaped Mt Augustus in Western Australia) Uluru is a magnetic rock rising 340m above the desert plain (higher than any Australian building).
It is 9.4 kms in circumference, and extends 2.5 km underground. Sacred to local indigenous people.

Mt Olga, the highest of the 36 dome rocks of the Kata Tjuta group 32 kms to the west, is 500m high. The Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is World Heritage listed:source Australian Govt., Dept of Environment and Heritage

Okay, two photos from me, hosted on my Deviant art account, but i had to chuck them up on photobucket to post here.

Follow the links for description and the real size, photobucket resized them (to be much smaller)
