I am particularily happy about this because I will have the opportunity to see the terminal first hand when I fly to Madrid in June! I am definitely looking forward to seeing the buildling firsthand. It looks quite nice in my opinion.

Great terminal, yeah. It's a pity our country is in disarray. Don't stay too much. The political crisis is lethal. Separatists (Basques and Catalonians) are being successful thanks to the new P.Minister Zapatero who is completely nuts.

why are you polluting this thread with your political agenda? If you are unhappy with your government, there are other places , even within SSC, much more suitable for expressing your views. Definetely not here

Sorry, I must concede this is not the place, but DonQui's moto "Booo Yankee and so on" doesn't talk about aviation precisely.

But anyway... my foreign friends are all time asking me about what's happening in Spain, they can't just believe it and the previous thread was just a warning for a friend from Canada. I mistook the forum, sorry. I'm member of three forums and I clicked the wrong key
Sorry. Anyway I love Barajas and Madrid.

Easily the best in the world for me. It isn't dull and corporate and it represents fantastically the vivacity of Spain. It is stunning and in true Rogers style it is wonderfully detailed and presented. More like this one please

Very great airport, the best that I've never seen! The only problem (almost until 2007) is the lack of a subway or commuter train station.

It is NOT a whole airport, but only one of the 4 terminals of Madrid Barajas Airport.

Madrid Barajas surpass Amsterdam Schiphol in 218, 395 passengers in February

Madrid Barajas Airport MAD surpass AGAIN Amsterdam Schiphol Airport AMS in the month of february in 218, 395 passengers, consolidating MAD as the new 4rd busiest airport in Europe. In january already surpassed AMS on 92, 519 passengers.

This numbers were archived even with the inaguration of Barajas new Terminal 4, on february 5, that diverted lot of passengers to other transport modes to avoid possible inagurational problems, that didn't materialize.

After surpassing Schiphol, Barajas is reducing the gap with Frankfurt FRA Airport to 334, 251 passengers in february 2006, from 547,586 in february 2005. Frankfurt is registering stagnated growth since years ago because of capacity issues, that have forced Lufthansa to divert traffic to Munich, in contrast the closest mayor airport to Barajas, is at 600 kilometers in Barcelona, that because it's geographic location cannot server as hub for Spain .

Despite the inaguration of Terminal 4 , Barajas will only archieve full capacity in October 2006, when the new runaways enter full capacity of 120 operations/hour versus 84 actually. Airlines are desperate for obtaining slots since years ago.

Before 2010 Madrid Barajas will surpass Frankfurt airport to become 3rd busiest european airport.

January 2006

MAD Barajas......3, 124,219......+8.5 %

AMS Schiphol.....3, 031,700.....+2.3%

Jan+Feb 2006
