Its a simply stunning complex with so many unique design features, its truely inspiring architecture. Gone are the days where airports are slung together hotch potch, this sort of grand planning should be the way forward!

exciter does Madrid Barajas International Airport really...

Does Madrid Barajas International Airport's new terminal really have that much floor area (940,000 square meters)?

The pictures don't really show that its really THAT BIG.

In my opinion this is the best airport either built or planned anywhere in the world.

I like the inside better than the outside. I still think Guangzhou and Incheon's airports look the best.

I have never been to Incheon - just seen the photos. However Guangzhou's, though competent, is nowhere close to Madrid Barajas's level. Guangzhou's modernist roof is also compromised by the supporting pillars. It's good but not that good.

"Barajas" Madrid Airport

I couldn't find a thread of it so I made one...

Madrid Barajas Airport will open in february the new terminal T-4, designed by Richard Rogers (UK). Iberia and it's alliance OneWorld will operate over here. Also Intercontinetal flights of foreign Airlines will operating from the new T-4 Satelite building. This will be Europe's 4th Airport before Amsterdam! The architecture is genious!

Here some photos:

Here more information about the plan in general (of the AENA internet site):

Any news about the metro line 8 extension to the new T4?

How about the runways? At the moment, how many are used? Only 2? And the other 2 (the new ones) will be opened when T4 is open?

The Madrid's council will start soon with the Metro line 8. The building is ready and prepared for use, but there is no infrastructure. It will take months when the line 8 will be extended to the new Terminal.

The terminal will be opened 26 February 2006 for now, but it will be cancelled I think.
