This thing is awful. It's buildings like this that make me feel better about the copy-and-paste glass condos we get in Toronto.

Toronto is such a much better place than Chicago, NOT!. Toronto would kill to have most of what Chicago has and is building...

Coast Opening Leasing Office

Quote:
By Leslie Mann, Special to the Tribune
February 15, 2013

Chicago-based Magellan Development Group has opened two leasing offices for its new 515-unit Coast apartment tower, the latest addition to the 28-acre Lakeshore East campus in Chicago's Loop neighborhood.

Coast is expected to be ready for occupancy in March. NNP Residential, an affiliate of Magellan, is the leasing agent for Coast.

Units include studios, one- to three-bedroom apartments and five penthouses, with living space ranging from 538 to 2,766 square feet. Rents run from $1,726 to $8,713 a month. Interior amenities include quartz countertops, walk-in closets and in-unit washer and dryers.

The 51-floor building also includes retail space, an indoor parking garage, fitness center, tech center, outdoor pool and deck.

New buildings are always good. But I must admit, this one isn't my favorite. It's just another box. And to Jeremo, have you ever been to Chicago? My guess is no because if you had, you wouldn't say something so ignorant! And I'm will to bet it's better than where you're from!

Anyone else think that the GEMS schools being built could be a selling point for the Spire or is it to far of a stretch? An elite school within walking distance...

*BTW I am new here (first post), I have been following SSP and SSC for a few years and have been an Urban Planning nerd for a long time.

It will be a selling point for numerous developments in the area. Considering that the Spire is at this point, extremely unlikely to be built, I doubt the school's planners have given it much thought.

I doubt it'll do much for any development's chances outside of Lakeshore East, especially not the Spire. The Spire's target demo to me always seemed like outside buyers who would use it as a 2nd+ home (so no need for a school). Even if they have kids, they would be driven everywhere and there are already plenty of well-established "elite" schools in the city.
