Air India has already announced that it will buy Boeings. The whole process is now going through various ministries, committees and what not. By the time they say yes, Boeing may be ready with the new 747 and Air India may have to change plans and then the whole drama will restart.

The government is always afraid that it will be accused of wrongdoing or taking kickbacks. When Air India initially selected Boeing, Airbus created a huge fuss. Many years back, Indian Airlines selected A320s and there was a huge fuss that the then Government had taken kickbacks from Airbus (don't know if the rumours were planted by Boeing).

So inorder to create transparency we have ended up having a fool proof process which takes like forever.

Let's hope that they finalize the orders soon.

Oh. Well, confirmation of orders is always nice, too, I suppose.

But since there won't be any *new* Air India orders, that means I'm all the more pissed off that Kingfisher ordered Airbus instead of Boeings!

Okay here is a Boeing order

India inks deals for 3 Boeing jets for VVIPs
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/a...32,curpg-1.cms

India has concluded a deal with Boeing to purchase three Boeing Business Jets to be used by the air force to transport VVIPs like the president and prime minister on long journeys.

The three jets, to be delivered between January and October 2008, would replace two Boeing 737-200 jets currently used by the air force's Communications Squadron to transport VVIPs and other dignitaries.

The contract for the jets was concluded in October.

The government had earlier concluded another deal with Brazilian aviation major Embraer to buy five executive jets to transport VVIPs and visiting foreign dignitaries. Three of the Embraer jets were delivered in August, and the remaining two will arrive in December.

Or Jet and others will catch up with AI and we'll see the whole AI corporation as unviable. I believe AI and IA both have IPOs scheduled. it is pretty sure that both these entities will be merged and rationalized post IPO. Since after IPO, the corporation has to make its results public - not that one cant invoke the FOI Act to get the numbers. It is only a matter of time. AI and IA are close to getting integrated with private players.

Paramount Airways eyes Boeing-787 jets

Boeing team makes presentation

CHENNAI: Chennai-based Paramount Airways, which has placed orders for eight Embraer jets, is also looking at the new generation Boeing-787 jetliners to meet its long-haul requirements.

M. Thiagarajan, Managing Director of the airline, said here on Wednesday that the Boeing-787 jets, in addition to catering for the long-haul domestic sectors of the airline, would help meet its plans to go international after completing five years of operations. He made these remarks after a six-member Boeing Commercial Airplanes team, led by Vivek Lall, Managing Director, Boeing India Commercial Airplanes, and Arun Desai, Director, International Marketing and Sales, made a presentation. The team also made a presentation on Boeing 737, an executive version offering 80-130 seats.
Paramount Airways has plans to link "non-metro routes with metros in business class comfort". The Boeing officials said they were here to meet several new entrants in the civil aviation sector.

I think you missed the purpose of this thread. It is to track concrete orders from airlines, not their plans. Perhaps when the order is placed and announced by respective companies and reliable media, then you can post it again here.

Airbus A380 Aircraft

Airbus A380 campaign takes off : Tom Symonds takes a tour around the brand new Airbus A380 superjumbo, as the company unveils it to the world's media.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle1350450.ece
Superjumbo that takes you into space
From yesterday’s first passenger flight, it was clear that the only thing that there will definitely be more of on the A380 is seats. There were 519 on our aircraft, but the A380 is certified to carry 853 passengers and stretched versions will have room for almost 1,000.
