It completely depends on the light and angle you view it from. In post 150 it looks good in pictures 1&2 but it looks awful in pictures 3, 4 and 7.
3- some of those windows look like they've got bars on them

They are the Louvred (or something like that) windows, which open vertically!, obviously not wide enough so you can fall out!
But being able to open a window on your 40-odd floor internal balcony would be quite special (and windy probably!)

Well yes; it is a good idea. But there is no denying that it does look awful; to anyone who didn't know they really do look like prison bars.

Nah LN1, they look like opening windows, unless you've seen bars made from glass?!?

It's a bit stuffy and snooty, but that beer was the business. Seems like it's one of those boozers which have loads of guest ales on, which is the best kind of boozer imo
The quiz machine is fixed by the way |

it's getting an 8 from me. loses points for the cladding, which has big benefits but also big drawbacks, for me because i think it's fickle and tacky. also loses points due to the blade's ongoing resonance issues and the protective netting they keep putting up there which always gets torn and looks pretty bad. loses points again because simpson keeps repeating this style over and over.
snapped this in february

Comdot's point about this style being copied elsewhere is very valid actually. It does affect Beetham Manc as it just doesn't seem so unique!

It's all very similar cladding though.
I don't know what I think of this tower. Sometimes it looks amazing, other times dreadful. I don't think the blade is particularly elegant though; loses points there. It also loses points on the quite obvious transition between apartments and residential on the cladding; although this change is not as bad as on HCT. However I generally like the cladding (although I've seen some pictures where it looks really bad*- I think it depends on the light), but as mentioned, it's now quite common. *The images recently posted on this thread show the superior front. The back is just terrible: image hosted on flickr

I love the back, the fact you can open a louvred window on your internal balcony over 100 meters up is ace!
Good news about the blade (I bet the wind just blew the netting off!)

Didn't impress me! Simpson's an architect with repetition. And even though Beetham have built towers, they haven't been immense successes. One quarter of the flats lying vacant in this. Beetham Brum is having all sorts of problems with it too!

sorry but you don't know what you're talking about erebus. beetham tower manchester was all sold off plan. you're talking about something entirely different, that people who bought 2nd and 3rd hand aren't getting their asking prices because:
a) they paid too much to start with so are asking for too much b) now is not the time to sell |

Granted ,you can usually tell a Simson building, but I would not class his designs as all repetitive, apart from the fact that he has used similar cladding on HCT and Hilton. Lumiere,HCT and Hilton are all very different looking towers. If he uses the same cladding on Lumiere then I will change my mind
