Lol, there may not be any *need* to thank you, Pengui, but I felt like it.

Also, I envy you for being able to see that wonderful building, both from the outside and the inside.

I hope you can come to Singapore some day and pay it a visit (although it is certainly not much of a tourist attraction on its own :-) ). I often make a detour when I'm in the area just because I enjoy the lush and chilling atmosphere of the small plaza as well as lurking around the lobby for the deco and the occasional piano or singer performing for the Divine Society club :-)

Unfortunately I think I won't be able to do that for much more time as I am falling victim of the random decision of some obscure local Ministry of Manpower officer. This to remind us (in case we forgot) that Singapore has little to do with a democracy and doesn't need to show any kind of legitimacy or transparency to western states as long as it keeps buying their weapons. Hopefully things will change here too some day if China finally embraces democracy...

Sorry for the OOT pamphlet... I feel better now ;-)

@Pengui: thanks. But I'm afraid I can't quite follow your veiled allusions ... On the other hand, if I were to visit Singapore I surely would make a point of visiting PVS -- it's one of my favorite buildings there!

At any rate, the Divine Society, Club, huh? I suspect a Mother Superior wouldn't even qualify for membership.

Hmm sorry. I mean they refused to extend my visa further than this year, so in January I'll have to quit my job. Might be difficult to find a new one as they refused to say why -_-

Pengui, I'm sad to hear that.

So does that mean you'll have to return to France?

T'es francais?

Mais je n'avais aucune idee!

Et pendent tes promenades de photographie, peut-etre tu trouveras un nouveau travail? Et finalement tu ne dois pas rentrer (si vraiment tu n'en a pas envie)?

[Pengui is French]

WH: But I didn't know that!

And during your photography tours you will perhaps find a new job? So that you don't have to go back (if you really don't feel like it)?

That surprises me too, drwho. I mean, Pengui has a job and all ... it's not like he's a burden to the country. This denial of a visa extension without reason is quite disturbing.

@WH, I'll try but it's difficult to find a job here unless you are citizen or permanent resident. Otherwise the normal procedure is to find from abroad, get the permit and then come. Several sources told me the Ministry of Manpower doesn't see with a very good eye that you come first and look for the job after. So local companies are not too keen on taking the risk to apply and fail for a permit.

Still I got a pretty good opening for a job at the moment but I'm afraid they won't give me a chance precisely because of the permit application problem :-( We'll see.

I certainly want to stay in Singapore but in the worst case I suppose I'll leave around March or April 2006.

WH, you studied at the Sorbonne right ? It shows ^ ^ I would reply to you in french but I'm lazy to translate in both languages for the rest of us, hehe ;-)
