The world's highest domestic highway: Leh - Manali Highway

Leh - Manali Highway, a 479 km highway in northern India, connects the towns of Leh and Manali, through some of the world's most spectacular mountain vistas in the Himalayas.

At an average elevation of over 4000 m (over 13000 ft), the highest elevations of this highway are at 5328 m (17480 ft)!!

wiki source

Travellers on this highway commonly experience acute mountain sickness.

The (mostly) elevated Eastern Freeway in Mumbai opens to traffic today.

Thanks for the pics, Chris.

As Deekshith mentioned, these photos were obviously taken before the inauguration of the eastern freeway.
As I understand, only one of the two tunnels has opened and the other is expected to open before the end of this year.
Therefore, this one tunnel is presently segregated to share traffic from both north and south directions.

hope to see more expressways...

NEW DELHI: The government is considering alternate financial models, involving low-cost foreign loans and leveraging adjoining land, to kick-start its much-delayed plan of building a series of national expressways even as it has junked the earlier deadline of 2015 for rolling out 1,000 km.
The road ministry plans to start with the Delhi-Jaipur expressway, which is expected to cost over Rs 16,000 crore. In 2006, the Cabinet had cleared Rs 16,680 crore for the entire 1,000 km. But project costs have escalated several times over as the government's plans to build expressways, including one mandated by the Supreme Court, continue to be stuck because of the red tape and funds crunch.
The 93-km Ahmedabad-Vadodara expressway remains the only national expressway in India. "Expressways can cost between five to eight times more than highways, which cost about 10 crore per km. We are working on new models to come up with that level of financing," said a road ministry official, "Expressways are access-controlled and the traffic will not be enough to make the project viable for developers unless we have higher toll rates." The ministry is working on a proposal to charge toll rates that are 1.25 times more than that on highways, added the official, who did not wish to be named.
The government had hoped for private sector investment of Rs 9,000 crore, but given the market scenario it is not sure funds will come in. The road ministry is, therefore, planning to build the expressways through the Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) route by using cheap foreign loans.

The projects will be sold off to companies for operation and maintenance after construction when they are ready for tolling.
As per the plan, the loans will be repaid with the revenue from the real estate built next to the expressways or by charging states for the entry and exit points they ask the ministry to provide on the expressway.

"We will hire consultants to figure out the value of the land or the developments which stand to gain by getting connected to the expressway through these nodes and the state governments will have to pay us this amount," said a senior road ministry official.
Private players may be allowed to build townships next to the Delhi-Jaipur expressway, similar to the Yamuna Expressway model. But with land acquisition for the Yamuna Expressway township project falling into controversy, this time the government will ask developers to purchase the land directly.
The Eastern Peripheral Expressway, which was mandated by the Supreme Court back in 2005, has also been delayed for several years because of indecision over toll rates.

ORR from Vandalur-Padapai road to Poonamalee is complete with service lanes and fully motorable. No barricades and no diversions. The 20 km stretch can be covered in 15 minutes max.

The problem is the cloverleaf interchange connecting with NH4 is not complete yet. So you have to drive 100-200 mts in mud road to reach the banglore highway.

Already many private vehicles started using ORR to reach NH4 from vandalur.

All bus stops, signboards, entry/ exit ramp markings are complete.

No work progress in the bridge over the tracks at vandalur and connection to GST.

All trees along the GST median from the Petrol bunk to Vandalur Zoo signal has been removed. So most probably ORR will go elevated along the GST median to connect with Vandalur-Kelambakkam road.

Entry/Exit ramps to ORR between vandaur and Poonamalee @ NH4

Mysore Ring Road U/C

The six-lane 42.5 km Ring Road around the city of Mysore is U/C.

Mysore is a city of 900,000 inhabitants in the southern state of Karnataka.

This Ring Road will be of national highway standards and connects 5 state and national highways.

You can clearly see the missing link below that will complete the Ring Road.
