By seeing the pillars coming up,I think they may start elevated road construction in coming days which is the part of the project to connect CBD that helps to milk more revenue. But sad thing is that work on small stretch i.e. missing link b/w hosakerehalli end to deepanjali nagar end on link road has not yet started.

How many motor vehicles exist in India today (and how many are trucks, motorcycles or cars)?

It's me or is it normal to see traffic crossing each other on the highway in photos above ?
I think the traffic in India is absolutely insane when I see this topic and some reports on TV (icetruckers in india,...).
But with all these new highways in the country, the situation is changing or not ?
Cows there are like our roebucks and wildboars here !

It's not you , the photos of outer ring road in Chennai that vicvin86 posted do indeed show people and cattle and traffic in all directions.
That road is U/C, has no proper access barriers, medians and grade separation yet as is apparent.

I've also seen Ice Truckers and they've selected the most dangerous roads in India in the Himalayan terrain there.

Expressways, tolled national highways and even several toll-free national / state highways are now access controlled and grade-separated.
Highway quality has improved considerably over the past 12 years, but being such a huge and diverse democracy, many regional disparities persist.
Some highways remain much better than others.

Thanks.
What are the speed limits in India ?
Issued by the federal government or each state have their own rules ?
I noticed in a report on TV that truckers in India have to stop when they arrive in a new state, to do papers ,give some money for tax, more fees to the bureaucracy !
What a waste.

80 to 100 km/hour on many national highways and all expressways, and some state highways.
However, it's not uncommon to have cars cruising at 160 km/hour.
Speed limit enforcement is usually less lax on city roads than on highways / expressways.

State for state highways; the central Government for national highways and expressways.

drvivek95, I see you're located in Belgaum. Do let us know if you find any info on vehicular density across national highways in India.
I didn't know NH4 was the busiest highway in India.
