I love the Panama City buildings, but Panama City like Miami needs an improved mass transit system.

It seems to pay off! USA gave back the Canal at the last day of 1999 and see what's going up in Panama City. Are there typhoons or earthquakes in Panama?

No typhoons and no earthquakes.....and most of the buildings were there way before the sovereignity of the canal was transferred back to the panamanians.

indeed, most of Panama skyline was there long before that, thanks to the Colon Free trade zone and the Panamanian banking system, now there is a new kind of developments, as many europeans and us citizens are moving here when they retire you can get a huge 2 floor apartment in one of the buildings by the sea for 200-250k

Yes, our mass transit system, or lack there of, sucks. It will change soon.

I spent a bit of time (vacationing) in Panama City 3 years ago and absolutely fell in love with the place. By far it's the best city I've ever been to, in terms of nightlife, culture and skyline. I was just wondering though, why so many skyscrapers and huge residential towers for a city with such a relatively small population? Who is living in these towers? I've lived in a few other Central American countries and nothing compares to Panama City, I just find it hard to believe that these are being contructed to house locals.

Well thanks Ryans, I liked that have enjoyed your stay here in panama, ,but like someone said on one of the former post "now there is a new kind of developments, as many europeans and us citizens are moving here when they retire" and also many people of south america are moving to panama because the low prices of some apartaments in a safety place an with the dollar as the oficial currency, or people who wants to live in a high class apartament with a great view of the bay of panama, or the panama canal or also a great view of the modern city! its just like to be in some parts of united states or any first world country but in latin american with lower prices!"

Oh and you have to come back soon to panama because on the next five years the city will change significantlly you even wont be able to recognize it!

These low cost apt have a large International demand. Some of these buildings underconstruction are Sold out or almost sold out. If the demand werent that big,, there wouldnt be as much construccion going on

Panama also has the best Latin american Hospitals too!

Incredible! It seems like many of these will be much taller than the tallest ones today!
But which ones are actually u/c or approved?

Have anyone looked at Emporis:
http://www.emporis.com/en/bu/nc/ne/?id=101461

Panama City: Panamá City will be the host of the new tallest building in Latin America.
The 78-story tall multiple-use tower will feature astonishing 270 meters, 45 meters taller than the current tallest building Torre Mayor.

The building will have a panoramic restaurant in the last floor. Construction starts by the 4th trimesters of 2005 and is estimated to end by 2009.

So it seems to be 270m and 78 floors, not 330m and 89 floors.
