![]() ![]() ![]() Wow look how the area has changed in just two short years. In that time 3 NV buildings, Digital Wolrd Centre and Sovereign Point have all been completed. I hope that now the Quays has built some critical mass and has become an established - and profitable - location, that Salford Council really start to crank up design standards. Sovereign Point is unforgivable but NV Buildings are pretty distinctive all be it flawed. There is no excuse for fencing off such a massive plot of land for surface car parking. The three buildings sit side by side in not-so-splendid, windswept isolation. I have no doubt the apartments are of decent quality but what about the public realm? What do the residents do if they want a bottle of milk? Okay we will soon see Salford Quays' first mini supermarket open a good walk away and the Citylofts tower has gound floor units but I can't imagine the walk there, along the dockside will be an uplifting experience. So whilst they are attractive buildings I would say their downfalls are the poor (non existant) public realm and their one-sided nature (as CAW points out, the rear facade is disappointingly austere) - all brought about by a profiteering client (Countryside Properties) a less then top drawer architect (Broadway Malyan) and a slack planning authority (Salford Council). its incredible to think that in such a short timescale salford quays has transformed itself from a wasteland to this dynamic skyline of towers apartments and cultural buildings. my only gripe is the metrolink that winds through it takes forever just to reach salford quays itself. i could walk quicker than the tram takes to go through here lol.

Yes not exactly a picky bunch at Salford CC Planning are they? Agree entirely with the 'just don't look around the back' aspect of the NV buildings. Broadway Malyan are OK but I'm not a fan of Countryside - just look at their efforts by Sportcity, particularly the first phase with the dreadful stuck on balconies.

Not too long
I really should get myself over to Salford to get a look firsthand at it. Its a shame about the back of those NV towers though, maybe in 10 or 20 years time they'll be due for a reclad

I agree with SleepyOne about the tarmac and car park at their base letting them down. I think that's more of a problem than the backs of the buiildings.

Ta for the pic Legin. I stated the same a week ago - did nobody read it?
It'll be the 5th tower along Dock 9, and the 7th new residential at the Quays. Could be the worst of the lot too.

No chance, that cladding looks very dodgy. And that huge podium is crap also. I like the lowrise block though.

I'm not keen. It reminds me of block of council flats from the sixties. Shame they can't give it some edge, like a sloping roof to match the lowrise.

Looks slopey in the render to me too.
Otherwise the perspective is way off. |

Those pics still havnt changed my mind. I was going to draw it for SSP, but neither me or Jonny_5 could figure out if it was sloped or not. Because you lot are saying it should of been, but in the renders it looks like it is, unless they have their perspectives wrong. |
