I understand that the communication will be an update to confirm that the land has now been sold. The target of March/April for liquidation of the company is still envisaged.

Sorry, this is probably off topic but as it is floating in one of the Quays I may get away with it...

Can anyone tell me what this is for (apart from being a hi-tech duck perch)....

PS - the safety notice warns of moving parts.

Is it part of the water aeration system to keep the quays supplied with fresh water?

I'm not so sure about actual aeration, which seems to be more about forcing air bubbles into the water, but thanks for the tip as it led me to the Wikipedia article. I'm now leaning towards it being a 'circulator' which stirs up the water to stop it stratifying....

Yes, that sounds plausible. One thing I had forgotten when looking up the Salford Council document is that they had isolated the docks from the main canal as part of the water regeneration exercise. {whispers} One more reason why large ships will never appear in the Quays, and it's not of Peel's doingl!

i know i am going to end up regretting this if you know who is about, but the partitioning of the docks has allowed for those duck ponds down near the old canal company buildings, which is definitely an improvement on an empty stretch of dock.

Found it...! (Well, I didn't - it was someone on another forum to be honest).

It's a LumenAER Solar Powered Circulator and is, as I thought, for circulating and aerating the water.

There's a video of it in operation on their website.

Docs are up. And the good news is that it looks pretty decent from the available renders. (some may disagree) Not been through every report, so there could be some more interesting stuff hidden away?

Great, yet more windswept plazas, empty offices, empty shop units and other meaningless spaces.

Cheers though jrb.

No probs. I share some of your sentiment kids, but it's better than a cash and carry.(?)

That's British Property development for you.(add NORMA, my skin is falling off, Last Street, etc, etc) Have we, sorry property developers that remain, learnt anything from last property crash? Erm.......

looks boring but if it has any street level activity it's better than 90% of what's currently built in the quays (with the exception of mediacity).

I disagree.

This area is going to be a hot bed for development, and any space eaten up like hot cross buns! A real diverse area due to media city unlike any other outside of the capital.

Watch, I'd say this area is about to really kick off.

I think it could be great, with more chance of that if they come up with a plan to do something with the land between this development and Media City, I'll guess we're not far away from hearing something on this when we hear the news about ManYoo?

I'm thinking Peel's most likely picked up the Manyoo land, they had an interest in half the site anyway, add it to the Mediacity land bank.

Oh dear!

Salford Quays crane move plan could be scrapped

Quote:
Plans to move two historic cranes to a roundabout in Salford could be scrapped.

Council bosses wanted to move the Grade II listed machinery from their current base in Salford Quays to the roundabout at the end of the M602, at a cost of £647,000.

The plan was to create a ‘gateway’ for traffic to the MediaCity development with a link to Salford’s industrial heritage.

But now council leader John Merry says the move is on hold after ‘representations about the cost’.

He said: “The problem is that they are currently in a dangerous position and cost a lot to maintain. But we agree that the cost of moving them is high.”

Steve Middleton, community campaigner, said: “We sent a strong message to the council not to spend this money. When cutbacks will have to be made to front-line services, it doesn't seem right to spend money on moving two lumps of metal.”

Planning chief Coun Derek Antrobus said: “There is some concern about the condition of the cranes and whether they can withstand being dismantled. A planning application is premature until we know the condition of the cranes. Once that is clear, we will decide their future."

Some sad people around I tell ya.

This is the fella who's put a block on it.
