Miami (actually Miami-Dade, the busses are run by the County not the City): over 100 routes, 9250 bus stops, 994 vehicles, 24/7 service.

I think there are a couple of heritage routes operated using the Routemaster. Shame to see it go, but I can understand the point for disabled folk, people with buggies, etc.

Another great loss to British public transport were the legendary orange and brown Greater Manchester buses.....

The different Bus companies which are members of the "Hamburger Verkehrsverbund" (Hamburg Transport) all use different busses, among them MAN, Mercedes, VOLVO, and lately also Van Hool used by the biggest Bus company. Two of Van Hool's AGG300 are used on Metrobus line 5 (afaik Europe's heaviest used busline).

Transmilenio - Bogotá

This is the first BRT System of Colombia. Actually is designed for 1.2 millon persons per day.

With the implementation of this System, important achievements have been possible: reducing traveling times by 32%, and gas emissions by 40% in the city air (over 2,109 public-service vehicles were scrapped); making zones around the trunk roads (“troncales”) became safer, and decreasing accident rates by 90% in the corridors where the system operates.

The Lines called "Troncales"

This is one of the medium stations

System pay

Tha passangers can arrive with theirs bycicles, and take the bus

The BRT ... and the CBD

Smaller Station

Inside of the bus

All the systema has exclusive lane

Another smaller Stations

The most bigger stations are called "Portales"

The Brt of Yakarta looks like a TransMilenio's based-system, is very similar.

JuanPa, thanks for the images.

BRT is a great alternative for the developing world as they can big larger transit systems with great capacity but built much cheaper and faster.
Also the bus doesn't have the same negative image as it does in the West, especially the US.

Are there any examples of a BRT system actually being upgraded to a light rail?

ottawa seems to be in the earliest stages of their Light Rail Plan....but it's not going down well with business owners, transport advocates, and politicians.

Cheers, m
