The period is too short to make those figures really relevant but during the last quarters we can still feel a trend :

Big losers : Spain, Italy, the UK, Germany
Main winners : Finland, Switzerland, Russia, France

Interesting to see so many people flying to Switzerland in times of crisis!

Why?, madrid barajas airport has become the main hub for Iberia airlines, the company that covers most of the flights to and from latinamerica in Europe...and with the expansion of barajas airport with the new flamboyant T4 madrid airpoirt is one of the few airports in Europe that can increase its flying capacity for years without problems....

it is going to be very interesting to see the reports of next year 2008-09, in the middle of the world economical crisis...some of those airports will drop some places in the list...i guess one of them will be the barcelona airport, despite of the new enlargement to be opened next year....with most of his air trafficc based on low cost companies and with the new high speed line betwwen madrid an bacelona competing with the air shuttle....

Warsaw statistics are indeed disappointing. But at least Krakow should enter the top 100 in 2008.

Anyway I would ask that these political issues were left behind.

interesting to see, that madrid's phenomenal growth has stopped. many people expected barajas to become 3rd busiest airport in europe, but it looks like that's not going to happen.

all in all a bad year for airlines. it seems all major airports are losing...

Russia: 42,800.9
Turkey: 42,145.6
Switzerland: 33,399.4
Ireland: 23,796.4

and by city (just from that list as I know many cities like London, Berlin etc have even more airports than listed here, just too small)

Paris: 87,549.4
Frankfurt: 53,972.3
Madrid: 51,935.6

Year, but I took that just from the list which doesn't include the smaller airports. London also has London City Airport which like the Paris airport above also has around 3million passengers a year, but it's not included. Other cities and country's also suffer the lack of airports not added as I was just taking it all from those lists of the top airports.

But good point anyway

I'm surprised that Dublin still manages to stay ahead of Istanbul.

Here's a map of the Top50 airports in Europe (minus the ones on the Canary Islands)

And the Top100:

Looks like there are still relatively few airports from Eastern Europe in the Top100.

BVA handled 2.15 million in 2007, there is no any more updated or monthly information. That is why is not in the list, moreover it seems it won't reach 3 million at the end of 2008.

LCY is listed! (at the bottom, 100th pos.), handled 3.25 million PAX.

Regards.

Well done.

PS: SOF (Sofia) and Krakow (KRK) could enter the list soon. Apart from these, the only one that could seriously enter it for the upcoming 1-2 years it would be Katowice (KTW).

There you go :O) I based my list on the top 50 one, not the top 100. I just don't have enough time on my hands to go that far ;O)
