February was a historical moment for Haneda airport. Not only that it reached new record of passengers but with high probability it surpassed London Heathrow for the first time!

On 12-month rolling basis Haneda welcomed 73,841,861 as of february 2015 and Heathrow "only" 73,529,012, total difference of 312,849 passengers in favor of Haneda

Actually Haneda might have been over LHR back in 2002 for one or two months by couple of thousnad passengers, but with this progressive growth of HND, LHR will end up beaten at the end of 2015. Unfortunately i do not have monthly statistics for Haneda before 2003

LHR might be one of the busiest in terms of international traffic or as a two runway airport, however it almost seems like past. With growth of Asian and Middle East airports and lack of extra runway at LHR, London's busiest will be dropping down in the ranking of world wide busiest airports in the future.

Unfortunately for HND, DXB will be the third busiest airport by the end of the year.

Shanghai Pudong hitting new records and having incredible growth
Bangkok regaining its lost traffic due to political unrest last year
More and more chinese airports climbing up with traffic

Passenger numbers rose 5.7 per cent to 6,510,653 up from 6,159,634 in April 2014. This is the third time in the first four months that monthly traffic at the hub has surpassed the 6.5 million mark. During the first four months of 2014, Dubai International welcomed 26,116,980 passengers, compared to 24,521,454 passengers during the same period last year, an increase of 6.5 per cent.

April update:

PVG reached new record, for a third time more than 5 mil passengers handled in a single month
ICN has highest % growth since 2010, unfortunately such a huge growth not expected in future months due to MERS disease
LHR, CDG affected by Easter holiday
FRA crossed 60 mil passengers on y-o-y basis for the first time
MUC crossed 40 mil passengers on y-o-y basis for the first time

Chinese airports
PVG again surpassed CAN on y-o-y basis. With current speed of growth PVG will reign for the future months, probably years

Selected airports on y-o-y rolling basis:
Given current growth of top 10 airpors, LHR might end up having the worst ranking probably in the whole history. In 1996 and 1997 LHR was 5th busiest airport after ORD, ATL, DFW and LAX. Since then its ranking was higher reaching number 2 in 2009. My expectation is number 6 this year after ATL, PEK, HND, DXB and ORD. But we shall see!
