It's all based on projected passenger traffic growth, which to me is a less than reliable method of predicting passenger traffic in a year (given that many factors can alter that trajectory).

The list is wrong. I don't know where you get your info but it is partially incorrect.
There is no way PRG, HEL, CAI or YUL entering top 100 busiest in 2015. Given current growth of many asian airports, this just simply wont happend.

However you might be right about LIS, BSB and CUN with YTD growth 13,3%, 12,6% and 9,4%. They ranked 101, 103 and 107 in 2014 so there is high possibility to get higher in the ranking this year.

All airports in Asia with more than 5 million passengers (in 2014) are on the map, if I am correct. There are no such aiports in the Asian part of Russia, that's why I cut off the northern part of the continent. And yes, I know that Istanbul-Atatrk (IST) is not in Asia . As there are so many airports in Southeastern Greater China, it didn't fit on the map in the same scale.
Hey where did u get the Pakistani figures from?

Good afternoon.
I would like to know if it's possible to find monthly statistics of passengers route by route (ex: March 2015 Toronto-Hong Kong: 50.000 pax) of any of these airports: YYZ, NRT, HND, SIN, BKK, KUL, GRU, DXB, AUH, DOH, IST, DEL, HGK, ICN, PEK, PVG and CAN.

Thank you so much.

Hello guys,
As usual, after NYC and SFO releasing their statistics, I am bringing you monthly update of busiest airports.

ATL created new all-time record carrying more than 9 million passengers in a single month. I think we can expect this figure to grow in July little bit more.

Also for SFO and SEA, June was the busiest in the history, surpassing 4,5 million respectively 4,0 million passengers.

DXB’s high traffic this month was affected by runway closure in May-July 2014

PVG along with BKK are airports with tremendous growth. BKK’s traffic was affected last year by riot against government. PVG’s growth is mainly due opening new runway in April 2015 and also expanding capacity of flight movements back in July 2014.

However negative growth experienced ICN and all Korean airports due to MERS disease (also negative in July 2015, hoping for recovery in August)

Another surprising negative growth has FCO, mainly because of the fire in Terminal 3 in May 2015, some of the flight were moved to CIA airport.

On 12-month rolling basis, we have witnessed another airport to reach 40 mil passengers – CTU. BKK reached 50 mil passengers milestone.

DXB jumped over LHR on 12 month-rolling basis for the first time in history

Hi bubbalo, I see BCN at 38,62 million on rolling 12 months August 2014 - July 2015 (aena.es figures).

How far are BOM and MEX behind the Top 40 right now? I see BOM finishing above 40 and MEX abut 38.5 this year (if current trend continues).

Hello guys,

I finally completed data for busiest airports in USA and its international traffic in 2014. So here are some graphs.

First, I would like to say those graphs and calculations are made for top 22 busiest US airports by international traffic, not domestic or total traffic. Includes: JFK, MIA, LAX, EWR, ORD, ATL, SFO, IAH, IAD, DFW, BOS, PHL, MCO, FLL, SEA, LAS, DTW, CLT, MSP, PHX, DEN, LGA

Above mentioned airports transported totally 977,820,524 passengers, respectively 802,100,066 domestic passengers; 175,391,430 international passengers and 329,028 listed as transit passengers.

In percentage numbers: 82,03% of passengers were domestic; 17,94% were international and 0,03% transit passengers. The proportion of INT vs. DOM passengers changed by 0,406% in favor of international traffic, in other words international traffic has 0,406% higher share of total passengers than last year.

Total 175,391,430 international passengers were transported by 22 airports as said above. The busiest top five are (% means share from 175,391,430 passengers)

JFK 28,248,082 16.11%
MIA 20,096,541 11.46%
LAX 19,105,667 10.89%
EWR 11,837,429 6.75%
ORD 10,753,660 6.13%

And the same numbers (%) in graph here:

All the airports reported positive growth of international traffic apart MIA, which registered negative absolute growth of -88,085 passengers versus previous year. Two biggest gainers – JFK and LAX, registered absolute growth of 1,707,413 passengers, respectively 1,253,528.

While comparing share of each individual airport versus 2013 data, MIA is the biggest loser here. In 2013 MIA’s share of total international passengers was 12,17%, but only 11,46% in 2014, which is -0,71% less. On the other side is FLL having 2,66% share in 2014; 0,43% more than in 2013

In the graph below, you can see % share of international traffic on each airport. Meaning i.e.: JFK has more than 50% of its traffic international, rest is domestic; or EWR which has approximately 33% of its traffic international and 67% domestic.

The last graph shows percentage of international passengers on monthly basis on all 22 airports. Steady growth can be seen from 2004, when average share of international traffic was 14,5%; in 2008 it was reached more than 16%; 2012s average was 17% and in 2014 almost 18% share was registered. In August 2014 new record was registered: 19,46% of all passengers this month were international, more than even in history.

In absolute numbers growth of domestic passengers is much higher, when taking percentage, international traffic registeres higher growth.

Los Angeles/Phoenix/Las Vegas nearing 80 million passengers combined just in the first half of the year and yet the best times to travel to these destinations are still coming during the second half of the year, especially with Las Vegas and Phoenix.

If the growth rate keeps the speed, it will surpass Frankfurt by year end.
