Hello guys,

NYC released their statistics yesterday but YYZ is still missing. However I am tired of waiting so here are the stats for July 2015.

I have to say I am happily surprised, because this July was full of records!

23 out of 40 busiest airports reported the busiest July ever. This is incredible growth. All the new records are highlighted blue and italic.

Although other airports, apart of the highlighted ones, experienced records. ORD has witnessed second busiest month in history (the only busier month was July 2008, coincidentally the busiest ever)
MAD is recovering well, with the current growth it could hit 5 milion passengers next year. Also happy to see KUL recovering slowly.

The highest growth we can see with DXB (due to runway repair last year + end of Ramadan traffic rush), BKK (recovery from political unrest in the country last year), PVG (new runway influence), IST (Turkish airlines expansion) and DEL.

On the other hand ICN was hit by MERS disease, DME and russian airports influenced by weak currency and western world sanctions, and CAN (apparently bad weather did not help with the growth)

Looks like PVG is really skyrocketing in the statistics now that SHA (which has absorbed most of Shanghai's air traffic growth in recent years) has pretty much reached its capacity limit.

At this pace of growth, ATL will probably become the first airport ever to surpass 100 million passengers a year before end of 2015... let's see August and September numbers...

How about all of them?? I am sorry guys but do this in my free time and even top 40 takes time to publish. All the stats are public so feel free to compile your tables and graphs.

@RegioManio: If current growth maintained (YOY Jan-Jul +4,66%) then ATL would have approx. 100 600 000 passengers.

Hello guys,
it took me some time but I have finally put together 10+ mil. airports.
Enjoy the graph!

Facts:
First airport to handle 10 milion passengers (10+) was MDW in 1959. In coming years traffic dropped due to transfer to ORD. MDW surpassed 10+ again in 1998. Second airport to reach 10+ was JFK in 1961. ORD surpassed 10+ in 1962

First airport in Europe to reach 10+ was LHR in 1965, followed by ORY in 1970 and FRA in 1972.

Situation in Asia is following: HND reached 10+ in 1970, ITM in 1973 and NRT in 1982.

Reaching milestones:
10+ MDW 1959
20+ ORD 1965
30+ ORD 1968
40+ ORD 1976
50+ ORD 1986
60+ ORD 1992
70+ ORD 1997
80+ ATL 2000
90+ ATL 2008
100+ ATL 2015 ???

Notes:
Unfortunately I am unable to retrieve stats of:
MSP before 1986 (in 1986 handled 17 mil)
CTS before 1991 (in 1991 handled 14 mil)
FUK before 1993 (handled 13 mil)
DME, SVO, VKO, LED during the end of USSR each of them handled 10+

Excellent work, Bubbalo! It's very commendable your great effort to compile and summarize such a great amount of data... and just for free.

This is simply amazing.. can't appreciate enough the value of this data (for air traffic enthusiasts), especially when organizations like ACI guard it like a close secret.

You might as well be the single source of this information for the mainstream public, hats off to you!!

Hello bubbalo,

I have enjoyed reading your statistics for some years now and want to say you a BIG THANK YOU for your work! I'm also collecting airport pax data, but not in such a professional way as you

thank you guys for kind words! (especially to you bangalore and crestmuc)

You are right bangalore, ACI seems like they are holding national treasure, but I dont understand them, most of the data are public anyway.

To get some old stats was really hard work. Some retrieved from internet but most of them from actual archives. Going through 60 years old paper books is amazing (good old paper )

However its harder and harder to get missing stats (as an example Japanese stats before 1993), I might never get them

@crestmuc: thanks very much! I am already using the data
