Since the terror attacks happend on 13th November CDG as well as ORY see less passengers compared to the previous year. Could be that we see IST handling more passengers in 2016 than CDG.

hello seljuk i think not, because you have now the same situation in Istanbul/turkey : terror attack from last week killed 10 german tourists, aerial trafic between germany and turkey will seriously fall after this attack; Germans were the most numerous tourists...and tourists from other nations too israel, russia, less people will travel to turkey now !

Terrorism doesn't seem to be slowing IST's growth. Turkey is hit by attacks occasionally and that hasn't affected growth rates. In fact IST is growing mainly due to TK's impressive growth which is fueled by the rise in Turkish people travelling, and to a lesser extent by the increasing amounts of connecting passengers TK is sending through their hub.

I'm not sure if IST will pass CDG in 2016, but at current growth rates, I think IST should be #1 in Europe by 2017.

IST cannot grow eternally.
And I doubt we can count Turkey as an European country. I know IST in the European part of Turkey but still...

Airports in Turkey also benefit tremendously from their central geographic location: Europe to the NW, Africa to the SW, and Asia to the East. No place in America (north and south) or Australasia has a natural built in advantage like that.

Geographic location partially explains Dubai's passenger surge. The busiest airport hub in the world will eventually be one located in the Middle East or Turkey. London will remain a huge global hub but will give up its perch in the not too distant future.

Amazing to see SGN doing 26 M ... I love the place! It will certainly need an expanded terminal to accommodate further growth... Or fast track the plans for the new airport

IMO impossoble with the current airport.

We have to wait for the 3rd airport, which will be opened in 2019.

Malta Airport

Quote:
M.I.A. plc releases traffic results for 2015, 2016 forcase

Malta IAP is expecting at least 4.73 million passengers this year, a 2.4% increase in traffic from 2015 when 4,618,642 visitors were registered.

“Every year our challenge is to keep building on the year-on-year successes of the past decade, while investing strategically to cater for projected growth. This year is no exception. We are investing more than ever before while working closely with airlines and other partners to keep building our network and increase Malta’s connectivity,” MIA CEO A. Borg told a press conference.

He said the results of last year showed the airport was achieving its goal of increasing traffic in the winter months. December alone saw a 9% increase over last year, he pointed out, thanking the Malta Tourism Authority and the Ministry of Tourism for their continuous support in attracting new airlines and passengers. Throughout this winter, M.I.A. will be connected to another three airports, bringing the total to 57.

Three new airlines are expected to start flying next summer, including Volotea to Catania, Iberia Express to Madrid and Czech Airlines to Prague.

Meanwhile, EasyJet will launch a new route to Geneva and Ryanair will be expanding their operations by another ten routes in the summer, including Poznan, Baden-Baden and Cologne.

Flights will also be added to Athens, Budapest and Helsinki, through Aegean, Wizz Air and Finnair respectively, all relative newcomers to Malta International Airport.

Last year was a very positive year for M.I.A., with passenger growth of 7.7% over 2014, a total increase of 328,338 passengers. Aircraft movements increased by 6.3%, while seat capacity went up by 5.8%.

The top markets for 2015 remained the United Kingdom, which saw an increase of 4.7%, Italy, which increased by 13.3% and Germany which increased by 3.1%. Substantial increases were also registered from Turkey (82.7%), Poland (50.1%) and Switzerland (18.7%).

Crucially, seat load factor also increased to 81.1% from 79.7%, meaning planes are being filled closer to capacity. Meanwhile, Cargo and Mail was up by 5.6% from 15,547 tonnes in 2014 to 16,414 tonnes in 2015.

In his concluding remarks, Mr Borg thanked all the 5,000 employees working at the airport for the commitment and dedication they show every single day, hence making another record year possible. He added that through the collaboration with its partners, Malta International Airport continuously seeks to raise the quality of experience for passengers, with the goal of becoming the best airport in Europe. Hey guys,

sorry I have been so quiet lately, was on vacation, far far away from computer
Here is updated November monthly figures (HND released NOV data on Friday)

Many US airport experienced double digit growth (ATL, ORD, LAX, SFO, LAS, MIA, MCO, SEA), most of them having highest % growth in couple of years, for example ATL - previously double digit % growth occured back in August 2007 with more than 11%. Also ATL transported 830 thousand more passengers than in Nov 2014.

PEK suffered due to the heavy snowfall during 21 to 22 November

CDG decreased passenger traffic due to terrorist attack happend on 13 November

As we see the traffic from Dec 14 to Nov 15 my prediction is the rank would be the same as it is now. This would mean LHR end up at the 6th position, the worst position ever.
Also apart of CGK all airports shows positive growth in that period, which would be incredible achievement. However KUL already released end year statistics and the traffic decreased, so in top 40, there will be minimum 2 airports with negative growth in 2015.

Very impressive growth for the top American airports in Nov!
In the year to date rankings, #3 (DXB) - #7 (LAX) are so close!
