@ buffalo

Jakarta does have 2 airports nowadays. HLP is their second airport and have scheduled services operated by Batik Air, Citilink, Susi Air and Wings Air.
The fact passenger for CGK is declining the past years is due to HLP Airport and Indonesian airlines are scheduling more point to point routes instead of using the overcrowded CGK as their hub. However, T3 will be fully operational in August 2017 and the start of building a third runway is on its way, so a rise of passenger at CGK is probably on its way unless Kertajati Airport is going to grab some of the passengers of CGK.
Unfortunately I don't have HLP figures per month...

More Indonesian airports passengers figures 2011-2015 of the Angkasa Pura II Group (western part of Indonesia)

And the figures of Angkasa Pura I Group (Eastern part of Indonesia)

Also Baneasa airport (BBU) has very few flights (mostly business/private jets) so that growth rate is very misleading.

Maybe Tiraspol Airport had an even higher decrease in passengers.

The selection of airports for this study is indeed weird. It includes Baneasa and Arad Airports, that are currently unscheduled. Others, for example Craiova (+90.1%) and Suceava (+2,400% ) in Romania, aren't there.

Barcelona for the whole of 2017 is expected to grow between 11 and 13% and possibly hitting 50m but that would require 14% growth. Only between Ryan air and easyJet Barcelona will se about 1,2 million more seats for 2017. Winter season has added about 30 new routes (13,5% more seats compared to last winter) and summer season will add a similar amount of new routes of which half of them will be intercontinental.
Agree that both Toronto and Barcelona will likely be in the top 30 for 2017. Those Asian airports will surely grow quickly for years to come but it's not a sure thing that they'll reel in YYZ and BCN.

I'm not that familiar with BCN but Pearson is arguably far below the level of passengers one would expect for the market it serves. For most of its history Pearson was run like an inefficient government organization instead of a business. The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) changed all that. Their management and stewardship is beginning to pay dividends with major upgrades, investments, and smart long term strategy.

Pearson's big increase in 2016 might be the beginning of a big growth spurt rather than an aberration.

@KelvinatorNL: thanks for the new meaning of my nickname lol, I regurarly download their annual reports, however CGK stats are different from the ACI stats

@AlexisMD: What you mention is last year, this year the situation is as the map says

@Alpin: The list is made of the ACI members only, from what I understand its not mandatory be a member of ACI, the airports probably get some benefits from participation though

@aquamaroon: I just cheched annual statistical bulletin of China and Beijing city area is short only 20 158 passengers to reach 100 000 000 (94 393 454 PEK and 5 586 388 NAY = 99 979 842 passengers), what a pity!

@isaidso: I am looking forward for YYZ to grow more, thats great news

They make +300% last year and they continue to grow in this one.

@aquamaroon: thanks for your support, you are right about first 9 cities (PEK transported 94.3 million passengers in 2016 and NAY 5.2 in 2015, assuming little higher number in 2016, so in total they could get over 100 mil combined) but Dubai airports wont reach that mark this year, perhaps in 2017

No thank YOU for all the charts and information you pass along to us!

So it looks like you're right and Dubai will hover at around the 95 million passenger mark and will probably join the club in 2017, making it 10 cities worldwide. After that, it looks like it's going be awhile until another city airport system joins the "100 million passengers club". Istanbul was on pace but has fallen off the trajectory, and Moscow is going to take a few years looks like. And after that there's quite a gap.
It's interesting, around this year you have FIVE airport systems reach 100 million passengers and one barely missing it, making it next year, and then no new new ones for what looks like five years or so. I don't think that is any important trend or shows any significance, just a cool coincidence.

ETA: Sorry just saw bubbalo's post above, arrgh so close!! So the "100 million passengers club" is still eight members strong. More likely than not they'll get a ninth member next year with Beijing, and probably with healthy growth a tenth with Dubai in 2017 or 2018

In December 2016 media released news of Pearson's aim of turning itself into a global mega hub. Air Canada is collaborating with the GTAA with the goal of getting major government backing for the plan.

They want Pearson to go after a big slice of the traffic between Europe and the USA. Pearson is already the 4th biggest global entry point into the USA (after NYC, LA, and Miami) and is extremely well connected to the world beyond America. They're hoping to leverage that head start. Likewise a similar plan is hatching at Vancouver's airport to act as a global hub between Asia and the USA. Calgary and Montreal are Canada's other large airport hubs but I'm not sure how they fit into it all.

For those interested, here's a link to the GTAA plans: https://www.torontopearson.com/uploa...HubAirport.pdf

Yes, right.

However I am still trying to process its calculation because it does not make sense to me. How can airport which has arrivals and departures of nearly 4.5 million passengers have more than 10 million of transit passengers?

Even if every passenger is transiting, wouldn't Tocumen achieve the same amount or little less transiting passengers as the arriving and departing passengers? For me this does not sound reliable.

Could anyone please explain the calculations behind? I am very interested and eager to understand. Thanks

So to finish off Los Angeles for 2016, it looks like John Wayne Airport came through with their full year statistics: 10,496,511, an increase of 4.6% over 2015

http://www.ocair.com/newsroom/news/?...17-02-27&tr=no

So now with SNA in, the final total for the LA airport system for 2016 is: 102,655,261. Hope you all had good trips!

I am still missing approx 140-150 airports that should be over 1 million passengers, importantly for 4 airports with over 10 million passengers (DEN, PHL, HNL, CAI) I have not exact data yet

If you have source or estimation feel free to share it

Incomplete list of busiest airports in 2016 (over 1 000 000 passengers)
getting more and more airports

EDIT: I added the same list based on countries

Some of the figures will change when the official statistics will be released (no rounded numbers)

Obs: Sorry, my english is bad!

São Paulo Terminal, after the very bad 2016, is recovering. Guarulhos (GRU) hasn't released its numbers yet, but Congonhas (CGH) and Viracopos (VCP) did:

JAN 2017

CGH --- 1,927,762 (+12.9%)
VCP ------ 903,490 (+0.1%)

São Paulo might break the 70 million barrier this year. Let's see how it will unfold.
