Does anyone know what is happening at the Royal Exchange? Any signs of it being complete, and if so what shops have they got lined up?

Still no word on the Royal Exchange scheme. Why the silence I wonder? It looks like being a really significant scheme, right in the shopping core and no word yet on potential tenants. Im intruiged.

New Retail/Leisure openings- coming soon
Icon 25:
Spar- at last a convenience store for the NQ- good to see it stretching out towards Shudehill! Art Gallery- no more details yet, butt PP applied for. North Residential Estate Agents, moving from Design House onto the Shudehill corner. Oxford St: Felucinni (next to Sainsburys where the Vie showroom used to be) Berekleys Estate Agents (I'm half guessing here and it seems a big unit) at the bottom of St Peter's House Deansgate: El Vino- opposite Forsyths music Shop Olivee- Barton Arcade Le Piazza- corner of John Dalton St where natwest used to be. Thomas St: TV 42 (Pool Hall/Bar) in Jewell House- being run by the people behind Sankeys i'm told- styled on Leeds Elbow Room. Never been but heard it's a good place. High St: Tongues of Fire: (Bar) next to Hunters.

Cheers Shutty, always good to see less and less empty units and I'm pleased Barton Arcade has an injection of food gaffs (I take it Olivee is a restaurant?) - should be a lovely place to shove down your scran if you ask me.

Ta GShutty. That elbow room is class. F**k me, Town is sprinting forward. All that deansgate stuff sounds class too!
An idea...? If something like this got built... ![]() ...and the car park accross the road got developed into more kooky retail. The Northern quarter would be thrown into more investment. Imagine being able to walk from deansgate all the way to Stevenson sq, seeing modern retail developments all the way.! Even the back streets behind Debenhams could be turned into a covent garden style cobbledy sts. What london shits all over us on in terms of retail, is that Manchester is broken up by so much crap. (like the ncp on chrch st) Ps, i mentioned this a few weeks back but, does anyone agree that the bogs in St annes sq (and stevenson sq for that matter) could be developed into a replica 'Temple Bar'?

CHAINS!
"CHAINS!....my baby's got me locked up in Chains!" So sang The Beatles on the 1963 Please, Please Me album.
If I have one message for those Chains, it's 'Hands off Northern Quarter!' I can accept them on market St and St.Annes Sq, but Quartier du Nord is Manchester's best chance of salvation from the dreaded clone-town, a bohemian free-zone for small entrepreneurs who can perhaps afford £30 sq ft but little more. |

Looks like there are a few suprising inclusions into the all new singing and dancing Arndale then (fairly upmarket by the looks of things):
Simply Heathcotes/Daisy and Tom/Waitrose...and is that Jim Thompson of 39 steps fame? Can't wait to get my mits into 'B & M Bargain Madness' though. |
