We Have Queensland Rail running the state-wide rail services, including the Tilt Train, which is the fastest narrow-gauge railway in the world and cut 7 hours off the Brisbane-Cairns route.

The train services in South-East Queensland(Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast & Ipswich) are operated by CityTrain, a subsiduary of QR.

Riga, Latvia
The problem living in a such small country is that the bigest cities railway system is too small, so here is the info about whole Latvia.

Map

Company:
"Pasažieru Vilciens" [english - Passanger Train]
A subdivison of the countries main railway company "Latvijas Dzelzceļš".
"Pasažieru Vilciens" owns all of the EMUs and DMUs. Some trains still have the old (soviet time) colors, some have different colors put on after 1990 and ome have the new "Pasažieru Vilciens" colors. Here is a closer view of the "Pasažieru Vilciens" logo painted on a EMU train (pic by me).
But there are plans to give all the EMUs to the Riga public transport company "Rīgas Satiksme".

The trains:

New color (pic by me)

ER2M
Modernised ER2

New color (not sure, i think this is the only one trainset with such color)

But sometimes the trains are like this ... one train - 4 cars - 3 colors:

I would say only Tokyo Monorail is private, it's currently an affiliated company of JR East though. Major stockholders of the other four companies are local governments such as Tokyo, Saitama, Ibaraki prefecture and Shinagawa, Adachi ward etc.

São Paulo´s rail network is operated by two companies: Metrô (exclusive, mostly underground lines) and CPTM (mostly converted from normal railroads to serve local passenger service).

A new Metrô line, line 4, is currently under constrution scheduled to open by 2008, linking Luz station to the Southwest, some 12km fully underground at a cost of 1 Billion dollars.

Metrô line 2 is being extended to the East and three new stations will open in 2006, then at least three others will follow and another stretch to Line 3 Tatuapé station is planned.

Line 5 is to be completed reaching Santa Cruz station on line 1 and Chácara Klábin station on line 2 sometime between 2009 and 2014.

The CPTM service is being upgraded and improved with investments of over 1 billion dollars. New stations are to open next year on line F and most stations are being modernized.

A new line is due to link downtown with the International Airport in the northeast, following mostly Line F and then going its own way, by 2011.

I have a question about the luz station in Sao Paulo, does it serve as somewhat of a central hub for both Subway and Commuter Trains? or is there a totally different or a multiple other stations on the lines that serve interconnections?

All CPTM commuter rails arrive on the old 1901 Luz station on the surface. Underground is a 1976 Metro Line 1 station which is a totally different thing, and didn´t use to be directly linked to old Luz station, though its exits are immediately near the old building. Now there is an underground link between the two. Another underground Luz station is currently under construction to serve the new line 4, due to open by 2008.
