Still Beijing metro coverage in the city center is very poor.

What do you consider the city centre? Before the Line 8 is completed, and even after, there are not many lines around Ring 1 because of the historical buildings. But this area is significantly less dense than around Ring 2, or the CBD or other clusters. With Line 8 all the tourist favourites would be covered by one or more metro lines, unless I've forgotten some, and all transport points too.

A line with cheaper upfront cost will also be easier to sell to NDRC so city planners would rather give it a higher chance of being approved than worrying about future proof. Newer systems such as Nanjing Metro are almost A train exclusive.

Correct, however that's not strictly metro anymore it's a suburban commuter rail, it no longer carries the Metro Line #.

BEIJING Line 10

Cinco de Mayo also saw the completion of Beijing's outer loop subway (Line 10), closing the missing link in the southwest between Xiju and Shoujingmao stations

the Fengtai Railway Station pix might not hotlink properly - the photos can be viewed directly here:

http://sanhuanxincheng.soufun.com/bb..._176779130.htm

Fengtai Railway Station is one of the two new stations on Line 10.

Also, it seems only 6 stations on Line 14 opened, with Qilizhuang station and transfer to line 9 following later this year.

As a result, there are two interchange stations in Beijing that are incomplete - Military Museum (Line 1/Line 9 - but only Line 1 platforms are open) and Qilizhuang (Line 9/Line 14 - but only Line 9 platforms are open).

Marginally off-topic, but what is Fengtai's role in the HSR scheme of things? What will be this station's role relative to Beijing South and Beijing West, and for that matter whatever stations will handle traffic to the North-East (and the North-West)?

With the new openings (line 14 and line 10 last 2 stations) Beijing metro length has reached 456 km including 17 lines, 270 stations and 37 interchange stations.

Line 10 is a circle now(57km). Its ridership can only grow to a new high.

Wiki's Beijing Metro map is updated.

Is it? The image doesn't show line 10 to be a circle now. Neither can I see line 9 & 14

It does, both the present map (above) and the future map (below). Maybe you need to refresh your browser page?

Is Line 10 the longest underground subway line in the world (57km)?

It seems to be. Before it was line 12 in Madrid?

Yamanote line in Tokyo is only 34,5 km long.

3rd interchange ring line in Moscow will be some 54 km long but it is not opened yet, none of its parts. So, yes.

Don't forget Shanghai Line 2 has a "hill jumping" between Longyang Road and Zhangjiang High Tech (过山跳) in which trains emerge to the ground, so it's not a continuous tunnel, not to mention the longest subway tunnel in the world.
