OMG thats amazing, Toronto is catching up to us. I love the colors, its too bad the best view does that have water infront of it. You should make it its own thread, many will miss it in here.

Ha, Toronto will never catch up to Chicago in terms of skyline.

I think the idea of "Pure Spirit" is exactly what is needed for both that area, and especially for the Distillery District (which seems to be floundering a bit
because of the lack of residential around it). The more people living and
working in that area, the better for the Distillery District.
As for the design, it is not unpleasant, but also not terribly original.
At least they resisted the temptation to glue a flat 'hat' on the top.
It looks very "2005".

Toronto already has more highrises than Chicago. I think presently Chicago's skyline is nicer than Toronto's, however, in a few years after many of T.O.'s towers are complete or near completion, they will be on par with one another.

I don't think you comprehend just how massive Chicago's skyline,
a) is presently, and
b) is growing

Never tell someone never to say never if you are out of the loop.

Let's not turn this into a city vs city thread. This is about Toronto's boom, not how we compare to Chicago.

Wow very nice building, it has some pretty cool distinct features. I especially like the curves on the building.

Both are getting better, but the gap between the two is only increasing.

Why is the gap increasing?
Well although a skyline is more than just the 500+ foot buildings, this stat is an excellent indicator:

Since 1999 Chicago has added 15 500+ foot towers, with 4 more under construction.
Toronto has a TOTAL of 13 (14 if you want to include the CN Tower), with another 1 under construction.

To put it in simplest terms:
Chicago has built more 500 foot towers in the past 6 years than Toronto has in total.
Chicago has more 500 foot towers under construction than Toronto.
Chicago will likely continue this trend.

Toronto has a great skyline, but we really shouldn't try and compare ourselves to one so far out of our league.
Be happy with what we've got, be happy with the ways it's getting better, but don't be foolish and deceptive and think we're catching up to the Chicago goliath.
It ain't happening.

Again, I fully recognize individual tastes vary, and a skyline is a lot more than the # of 500 footers a city has. However, I don't buy the argument that Toronto is somehow catching up, or will foreseeably overtake, the Chicago skyline.

EDIT: If you're wondering, I did a count on Emporis and presently Chicago has 86 towers over 500 ft. Again, compare that to Toronto's 13 (or 14 for the CN Tower lovers) just to comprehend how large it is presently and the rate at which it's growing.
