Kerala-based Uday Samudra Leisure Beach Hotel (UDS) plans to upgrade its four-star leisure beach hotel at Kovalam to five-star beach leisure hotel category. The hotel which presently has 186 room inventory is in the process of adding 14 rooms (new rooms will be operational by the end of December 2008). The group also plans to increase the room tariff by 12 per cent which will be spread over the next two years.

Presently, UDS has four categories of rooms including presidential, deluxe suite, suite and exotica. The additional 14 rooms will be added to the exotica category. As reported earlier by this publication, UDS will be launching their flight catering 'Sky Kitchen' at Shangumugham in Thiruvananthapuram by September 2009. The kitchen will run for a month on a trail basis and will be fully operational by October 2009.

Speaking to Hospitality Biz, Raj Gopaal Iyer, Corporate Director, Uday Samudra Leisure Beach Hotel said, “The renovation for upgrading the hotel to five-star category will start by April 2009 and is scheduled to be completed by September 2009. Our patrons could enjoy the services of upgraded leisure hotel from the next season. The hotel will be operational throughout refurbishment since we plan to carry out the renovation in a phase wise manner (taking 20 rooms at a time). After renovation, we are planning to eliminate presidential, deluxe suite and suite category and introduce club and club premium category.”

Ahmedabad: A subsidiary of Tata Group chain of hotels Root Corporation of India (running Ginger chain of hotels) on Wednesday announced its countrywide expansion plans here.

“We started with 11 hotels at the begining of this year and intend to open between 8-10 Ginger chain of hotels by the end of this fiscal, across the country,” Roots Corporation Ltd cheif executive officer Prabhat Pani said on the sidelines of inauguration of 16th Ginger hotel here.

Around 7-8 hotels of the group are under construction across the country, including the one in Surat, of this Rs300 crore company.

“We plan to construct 30 three-star hotels within a span of 12-15 months. By the end of 2008-09 we expect an increase of 30% in room demand,” Pani said.

The company has one hotel each in cities such as Bangalore, Pondicherry, Trivandrum, Mangalore, Bhubaneshwar, Durgapur, Pantnagar and intends to open one more in the exisiting locations by end of 2009-10.

Setting aside the speculations of impact of slowdown on the hotel industry, Pani said: “The demand for three star hotels in India will continue to be robust with host of international games event lined up in 2009-10.”

"We plan seven new properties across India by 2012-13, and as the first phase of it our group would be investing Rs 2,200 crore to complete two new hotels in Delhi and Chennai by the end of 2009," Hotel Leela Venture Ltd Vice Chairman and MD Vivek Nair told reporters here.

He said that besides the properties in Delhi and Chennai, the chain is also going ahead with plans to set up hotels one hotel each in Udaipur, Pune and Hyderabad and resorts in Kovalam and Kolkata by 2012-13.

Berggruen Hotels is set to launch its first Greenfield budget hotel in Thiruvananthapuram under the ‘Keys’ brand in August 2009. The 101 room property will be primarily targeted at corporates. However, the hotel chain expects to attract leisure clientele coming to the city. “We're bullish about the scenario at Thiruvananthapuram. Our property will be positioned at par with the Muthoot Plaza and the Fortune South Park,” said Sanjay Sethi, Managing Director, Berggruen Hotels. The hotel chain is using the hub and spoke model for growth in the country and is constantly in the process of identifying new locations for the same. To fuel its growth, the group has also increased its investment in the country by USD 40 million.

As per Dude's drawing, the position seems to be overlapping with the already existing star hotel over there? (Oh my poor brains.. I just forgot that Hotel's name. What is that RE........... ?)

As per Vinod's post it is the location where the Van Vegetable Sales Depot was there. Did they purchase the adjacent residential plots too to construct this building?

Yes Vinod, I just checked the pictures posted by you on March 13th.
This is the location. The small gate (close to Govind's signature) is the one leading to Model School's former HeadMaster Madhavan Pillai Sir ("Isthiri Petty" ennu parayum). Thar great personality died few years back. His son, who is an Engineer with KELTRON was staying there along with his wife, who is a Professor of Agricultural College. May be they moved to some other location. But I think, VAN's building shall also be vanished.

Tail Piece:

It was just opposite to that VAN (inside KSHB's compound) that Rajni Anand's body was found on a rainy after noon. I was a witness by coincidence.

Hotel Residency Tower
