yeah let's make this the next thread...

By the way what is the real story about the hole? I guess it still going to be the round hole? (that's the only right design...)

Unfortunately, just because of some stupid politics, they made a terrible design change. Those who witnessed this change of design will have a bad impression of the political sensitivity in China.

And what was the purpose of a design change?
I can't understand why they changed it to such a horrible design...

No, the square hole is not a joke. The posters on-site depict a square hole.

OK so it's sure that this will happen? But why? because round is like japanese flag? If so, that is some amazingly childly politics... Then China has a long way to go... Then all chinese should stand up and fight for freedom!

It is probable that the design was changed because the circular hole bore similarities to the dot in Japan's flag. None of this is confirmed, except for the design change. How unfortunate.

How unfortunate. This building has gone from being a monolithic sculptural masterpiece to a bland bottle opener.

With this design change it is clear to me that this building has lost its charm and shine. SFWC comes a day late and a dollar short.

sniff, sniff.....cry...cry....this would have been my favorite building in the world....with that square hole....is not even top 10 to me.

So they are going to demolish the pearl of the orient because some freaks think its circular shape when seen against the white sky resembles the Japanese flag??? My god, how ridiculous!

I'm sure the government wouldn't allow the sentiment to go THAT far.

So why wasn't the building designed with the square hole since the beginning? Why did they decidide to change it only now?
