I totaly agree

In my case, every time I look at it, I think what a loss...
Yes even with a trapezoid hole the building will look great - but that's because of the strength of the original design and not the modification.

I think they could save the square hole a bit by running a spire through it. This would do a few things - it would turn the hole into the Chinese character zhong (also the first half of 'China' in Chinese) especially with something on the facade below the hole to continue the line of the spire and it would also allow them to cheaply get taller than Taipei 101 which I'm sure they'd love to do.
More importantly for me, it would look better. THe square hole on top of a block just looks so harsh with nothing else to capture the eye. A verticle line through the middle would break it up.

Not much difference except some changes on the ground work and a little rise from the core.

P/S: The floor steel girders are currently erected in the hidden parts.

The square could ultimately grow on me...but for now the circle was perfect. Even a diamond or a triangle would be more elegant than a square. Then again, they always could change the final design a few hundred more times by the time the construction gets that high...

It's still nice but not as nice as before. The tower looks breathtakingly slim and tall here. Was it really because it resembled the Japanese Rising Sun flag? That would be really pathetic....

In a way yes, it is pathetic. Had the construction/ design of the building not be affiliated with any Japanese company/ influence, the design would be allowed to hhave a hole.

Come on, that's not so bad. I wouldn't imagine the Freedom Tower with a symbol which looked like moslem at the top of it or Israel building a supertall with a German icon.

first of all: damn this thing is big

second of all: i'm pissed
why such a change? a circle can stand for anything. it's not an abstract sign such as the hakenkreuz of the nazis

man, it's a circle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

why did nobody think about that earlier? i guess we'll never understand!

couldn't they at least make it elliptical?

Hey, I think we (SSC) need to send a protest memorandum to the authority! Can we do that?

I doubt they would listen, even if it were the United States doing it.
