^ What's wrong with that tower?

BTW, I've just finished collecting all the images I need for a boom rundown thread on Dubai. Will have to resize loads of images to make it easier on your hard drives. It'll take ages but I'll hopefully have it ready tomorrow. All I can tell you is it'll be the BIGGEST post in SSC history

I would be impressed, if it were not so ugly, like every other "mega-project" in this oasis of a country

I think it is. I know Dubai is planning on opening an exchange soon, so this could very well be the building for it.

I agree to a point... most of those towers are varying levels of tackiness of design... but the sheer scale of the project and the ambition of the city is nothing to sneeze at

BTW, Dubai guys, what's with that huge spotlight in the center of the creek? Will it be on all night?

Not sure but that would be awesome...it should be able to change colours too...that would be even better...I always likes the fact that they change the colour of the skydome here in Toronto...i think this spot light could ahve a similar effect

I don't know if I am counted as a "Dubai guy" since I am from Abu Dhabi, but I'll answer your first question

I, do, think it is light because if you visit the BB website then you would see a render before the main menu comes out showing a night view of many buildings with a beam of light in the middle that moves right and left. Hence it is not orginally thought to host a tower. The answer to your second question is "Who knows!" It is hard to tell from the information we have right now.

Secret plans for a Burj Dubai rival in BB have emerged in SSC a while ago and some of our forumers thought that the tower could be in the light's position. Currently it is just in a form of speculations and nothing has been announced yet, so we don't have to rush the news. We could see some minor changes in the master plan of Business Bay in the coming years, because it is not finalized yet. Plans do change slightly before implementation so we'll have to wait for buildings to start construction before we could believe or deny their existence.

The Exchange is sick.

Overall, a very cool looking project.

The Exchange is part of Dubai International Financial Market, a totally different and not-related project. This tower's name just happened to be "The Exchange".

All this is pretty amazing, but once again, I find that Dubai is just trying to show off, I mean come on, they are almost taking a random bunch of desert area around the city to build a huge CBD, how more artificial can you get.

I think they should at least expend the city a bit with low and mid-rises to give the city a more harmonious feel to it.

^ You think that they are not doing that? Of course they are.

If we had to open a construction update thread for all the projects going on in Dubai, this forum beter change its name to SkyscraperDubai.com

This city never stops to amaze me , where do they get the ideas from....
Once again brilliant designs on artificial locations.

@ AltinD , it is time for a huge seperate Dubai section in this forum , this is where all the action is happening

i guess he wants to say the dubai or uae forum should be independent like the dutch and spanish forums

well, too early and the uae is too small to deserve its own independent forum (yet )

This is going on though, it's just that we're not really intrested in it. A Dubai still has a very large old part to the city, again it's just that we don't see much of it.
We don't really see much of New York except Manhattan do we? - Same sort of thing.
