Comilla - Bangladesh
These pictures I have taken in last year.
Brief Introduction of Comilla Comilla (Town) stands on the bank of the Gumti river. It consists of 18 wards and 46 mahallas. It has an area of 11.47 sq km and a population of 168378; male 52.56%, female 47.44%. Literacy rate among the town people is 60.3%. In the suburb there exists the Commonwealth War Cemetery Memorials, Muktajuddha Museum at Mainamati Cantonment and bangladesh academy for rural development, Mainamati Museum, Comilla Cadet College at Courtbari. Comilla Town is blessed with the memories of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. Nazrul Islam married twice in life, one at Daulatpur of Muradnagar upazila of the district and the other at Comilla Town. Those places have been marked with memorial plates. Poet Rabindranath Tagore visited Comilla twice. Ustad Muhammad Hussain, Fazle Nizami and Kulendu Das have enriched the cultural heritage of the town. Ustad Ayet Ali Khan established a musical institute here. Recalling old memories
While recalling old memories today, I thought of my college days too. This urged me to search the Internet with the hope to find some information about my old college in Comilla, and there I found some pictures. Thanks to the friend who posted them here.
I have been a student of Comilla Victoria College from September 1961 to January 1964. I left Comilla in January 1964 and then never returned. I still remember the view shown in the last picture. There is a place called Rani Bangla about 5 miles from Comilla. There used to be wonderful Bunion tree on top of a small hill. I was told the tree is several hundred years old. I wish someone could take a picture of it and post it here. |

I have a handful of Comilla pictures (not too many) and I think its high time this thread was active again. It will really be great and appreciable if pros like Tmac & Mirza cooperate because I think with their help (and all Bangladeshis of course) the Bangladesh threads will shine.

I missed these pictures. They were posted during last Eid. Nice pitures, callapu. I like Comilla so much that a few times I took bus rides just to be there for a few hours..... then come back the same day.

What is the distance between Dhaka (city) and Comilla? Isn't it about 60 miles? Just about the same distance between Ann Arbor and Sterling Heights, where many of my friends reside. It is about an hour to hour and a half to drive there. What is the commute time these days between Dhaka and Comilla?

![]() Comilla Roshomalai is famous stuff. Originally the Moira (Sweets makers) people were employed under the Tripura Kings in Comilla before they moved to Agartala after India broke up and E. Pakistan was created. Sachin Dev Burman was a cousin to one of the kings at that time and he was (as we all know) culturally active. Comilla was the seat of the Tripura kings and a large portion of Eastern Bengal was under their rule (mostly Comilla + Noakhali + Tripura).
