CHICAGO | Kingsbury Plaza | 456ft | 47 fl | Com

Height: 456 ft
Floor count: 47
Location: North Kingsbury and West Grand
Construction end: 2007
Architect: Solomon, Cordwell, Buenz and Associates
Developer: The Habitat Company

Website

If built, the Grand Kingsbury has the potential to become a very important building in Chicago's skyline. Planned as a blue glass tower with a few vertical and horizontal setbacks, it is the Grand Kingsbury's location that will do the most to make it stand out. As currently planned, the building would be erected on the north branch of the Chicago River in what is now a parking lot next to the East Bank Club. This will make it a memorable landmark for both commuters and even occasional visitors to downtown Chicago since there are few high rises in the area. The construction of this building illustrates that the demand for housing in the River North area is still very much in demand, and that the area is going through a rapid change from warehouses and vacant lots to a livable neighborhood. Also interesting about this building is that its lower levels won't be completely given over to a parking garage. Floors two through six will be shared parking and residential. The seventh floor is envisioned as the building's amenities floor, eight through 45 are all residential, and 46 is mechanical. Because much of the area is still historic and legacy buildings, even the lower floors of the Grand Kingsbury will have uninterrupted views of the city.

When I called The Habitat Company, that's about the same height figure that I got.

I don't think that I would consider this a blue glass tower. It seems to be more green to me.

Quite a short period from announcement to the beginning fo construction, although maybe not for an apartment tower (as opposed to a condo tower).

Is that the crane for GK? I don't know why I always pictured it on the south side of the EBC, but, I guess not if that is, in fact, the site.

If you look just to the right of the lifted bridge you can see the Craine for GK.

Maybe there's not enough forumers over there taking pictures of the progress, so they feel left out.

I took the one picture....and every day I look to see if I can see it coming over the top of the Athletic club...but nothing. The day it does you will all get a picture. Never leave home without a camera!
