I couldn't help myself, I swung past the site this morning. I was quite supprised to see a crane cab on site. I spoke with the superintendant for a few minutes and he told me that they would begin driving steel sheeting tomorrow.
A crane cab on site - 2006-1-9 ![]() As you can see, they have already broken through to lower Wacker Drive. Most of the construction vehicles will traverse the site VIA lower Wacker. View of the site as workers assemble a crane - 2006-1-9 ![]() Using a sledgehammer to connect sections of a crane boom - 2006-1-9 ![]() We were also told that there will be a special concrete pump used for the tower. They will need if the the same reasons that one is being used for Trump Tower, extreme height and difficulty in pumping conctere to that altitude. It was also mentioned that the goal was for caisson work to begin by the end of January. But that work could possibly not begin until about mid-February. |

for those of you experts who follow these things: what becomes the next empty lot (or building to be torn down) to become THE watch site, now that Waterview is off the list? Where to we rivet our eyes to see the next major tower ground breaking?

I would agree (or at least hope) that the next would be 300 Lasalle and Hotel Intercontinental. The Mandarin though? I didn't even think there was proper renders of the building out. I would certainly be suprised if that was one of the next to go up but others know much more then I would.

I did something similar to this for Trump. This is the best I could do for now, I will further edit this to make it easier understand. And a special thanks to Steely for the shot of the rendering which I used for this. I'll keep it updated.

I just got some pretty interesting information for a Waterview Tower official.
"Waterview Tower will be built with 299,700,000 pounds of concrete to be delivered via 8,222 truck loads." |
