Milan - Skyscrapers city
Hi guys... what you think about Milan skyline?
According to www.emporis.com Milan has 646 highrise ( emporis euro cities list - Milan higrise buildings) For the next ten years Milan planned the the most massive skyscraper development of its history, and highrise buildings are u/c in dozens in all the city A lot of people think the city had its talls development during '50s and '60s to stop in the following years (what is partially true...); but during the years the city never stopped to build towers... even if in majority of cases just highrises Then... what do you think about Milan on this point of view? Its skyline (present - future)? Do you think it is (or will be) one of the best, or most impressive skyline in Europe? Or what? OK... let's begin with a coupple of picture from this wonderful site www.gusme.it ( wich I suggest you for panoramical view of Milan ) just to give you a better idea![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() That's all folks for tonight... Then I'll go with a few projects

An impressive array of pictures I must admit. The actual ones of the existing buildings are interesting since Milan appears to have a large number of many towers between 10 to 20 storeys tall.
Interesting and intriguing city I must admit, worth paying an extensive visit. BTW, is the above mentioned project under construction? Very Italian design with all its elegance although I think the architect is Japanese (Is hiw name Isozaki or something?)

![]() I answer you shortly The project posted (named CityLife) is on the area of old Milan Exhibition Center (now they opened a bigger one in suburbs just on April 2005) It's forecast the area owner, Ente Fiera Milano (Milan Fair Society), will hand over the area to new owners (CityLife) in March 2006, I think... Then they'll begin to demolish pavillions now existing, and only after this they will start to build I think the "build up" phase will start in not less than a year But they forecast, however, to end in 2014 About architects: they are four... Arata Isozaky, Zaha Hadid, Daniel Libeskind and Pier Paolo Maggiora In particular, about the towers: Isozaki designed the highest one (218 m... and not 209 as reported up: those datas are wrong), the second is by Zaha Hadid (185 m) and the third, the curve one, is by Daniel Libeskind (170 m)

Thanks for the info.
BTW all the architects are great, including Zaha Hadid. She came and gave a couple of speeches in the Athens Concert Hall, a few months ago. ![]() I hope it gets finished before 2014 though... Nine years are too much, even for a project of this size...

First of all, some maybe many of them need re-construction. They look simple and old.
And I think, Milano has no chance for best skyline in Europe. But however it's a fantastic city. |
