Kochi: The state government would start a unique academy at Technocity in the capital in partnership with Accenture – a global management, technology and outsourcing firm – to train nurses for deployment across the globe.

Five acres of land has been identified for the purpose, which is the only contribution from the government for the venture. Accenture, which has presence in 120 countries, will set up the facility and impart the language skills for the respective country as also the soft skills required for the job, and will assist in the recruitment process.

Labour minister Shibu Baby John, who recently visited Spain, hit up on the idea after Accenture representatives explained to him of the massive requirement for nurses there. It was then that they expressed their readiness to impart language skills and soft skills to job-seekers from India.

Later, discussions veered to the point where Accenture representatives accepted the minister’s proposal to have an academy where nurses from Kerala can be trained in matters of language and soft skills before being recruited there.

The proposal, which came as a follow-up to the Emerging Kerala summit, is now before the law department. “The huge advantage of having such a facility is that the nurses will not feel alien when they land in another country. There is a huge demand for nurses in Latin America and language is one stumbling block and the opening of such a facility will open doors for nurses from here,” Shibu Baby John told DC.

Spain alone is learnt to have 4,000 vacancies of nurses and Accenture estimates to recruit 4,500 nurses from Kerala every year to different countries. Such a tie-up along with the proposed appointment of marketing agencies in different nations will end the menace of fake recruitment agencies, a senior labour department official said.

Accenture devpt center is already there in Trivandrum. Good news on additional investment. Hoping that companies like cognizant and wipro will come forward.

Technopark called enviromental consultants for obtaining enviromental clearance for it's 50 acre 7 Million sqft SEZ in Technocity.

So we can expect the construction to start in 2014. 7 million sq.ft campus of TP + Infy 50 acre campus + 100 acre TCS campus + 10 acre suntec campus, and still 150 odd acres are still unused.

Yes Robin we can expect the construction of this SEZ to start by end of 2013 or 2014 begining. An aggregate 20M sqft of total builtup area is expected from TP, TCS, Infosys and Suntec.

I dont think 7M sq ft campus will start construction simultaneously like what we are seeing in Technopark Phase III. First they will build 3M or something, then only they start think about the construction of next phase...

Anyways its a great news to cheer... So by 2014, we gonna see a construction boom in Northern suburb of Trivandrum city...

it is hightime all the panchayats from kazhakkuttam onwards extending upto attingal municipality should be merged to form Greater Trivandrum Municipal Corporation. Need legislation to make it a reality..but who would show such type of foresightedness??
