I know. I just haven't sorted them yet. I'll leave the 110F res in as a proposal just in case something happens.

I wouldn't call those pictures "random", I would call them spectacluar. Notice how in the first one, Marina Terrace is completely hidden.

Dubai Marina / Media City Skyline seen from Dubai Autodrome.

This is maybe 1/3 or even less of what is to come there, 100 Towers in front of those have not yet broken ground, most of them over 30F and up to 107F,tallest Res and 2nd tallest res tower in the world, with the tallest block on the planet.
alone 79+ 35 to 45 F towers in JLT, another 350m supertall tower in the middle not yet visible.
behind Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence with about 150 highrises, and maybe 100 with over 25F.

Completion of everything probably in 2009/2010 with the major part done by 2007/2008 i guess.

the whole area is under construction at the moment with only a few completed projects.

Ha. This is funny. How has Dubai surpassed New York? In what way? Do you have proof? Can you back up this statement?

There is only a select few cities in the world..I say 4 (New York, London, Paris, and Tokyo) that are the upper tier of world cities. (Tier 2 I would say Sydney, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Chicago). Dubai I would place smack in the middle of tier 3..alongside Madrid, Toronto, Melborne, and a few others).

I seriously have not been impressed with many projects going on in Dubai. Aside from the Palm Islands and The World. Those make me say, 'Wow.'

People on this forum seriously think that 50 million skyscrapers make a city great when that is clearly not the case.

You call Sydney and Los Angeles Tier 2 cities but Toronto Tier 3?? ,

By the way this is a SKYSCRAPERCITY FORUM and YES 50 million skyscrapers do make a city great, You want population?? Well then you can admire Calcutta.

Agreed.

BTW, lets not turn this into a "dubai is fake" battle (not refering to anyone in particular here). I know noone has said that yet but I can see it going down that road and I don't want this thread locked.

congratulation, you managed to complete misunderstand what Dubai_Boy was trying to say in his post. And go along with the same crap that he was trying to get people to stop.
His point was simply that you can't really compare cities. Every city has its unique qualities, every city has its good and bad sides.
To go in to a thread about a cities development and slag it off purely because it is not what you like is stupid but yet many people do it to Dubai in this thread and I for one have had enough of it. Take it to the City Vs city forum.

I wouldn't want this thread locked either. But God forbid that I can't have my own opinion.

But if the Crown Prince of Dubai (who is obviously a very intelligent man) made a master plan to build the biggest and best everything within 5 years (seems as though 2010 will be a huge years for many many cities across the world) to save it's city then I applaud him.

I just don't find a vast majority of the projects very interesting. Many are tacky and a few are downright ugly. You can say that about alot of buildings across the globe.

I'm not going to go off on a tangent and scream Dubai sucks and all this other stuff. I've never been so I can't judge the whole city. Granted I never heard of Dubai until a few years ago but I digress.
