I don't think anyone will disagree that there are some really crappy projects on that list. Falcon city is the prime example (there should be a multitude of these emoticons beside it).
Also some towers look pretty bland but then again, these will just turn out to be fillers unless they really stand out like the flower tower on palm jumeirah.

Just out of curiosity, which projects don't you like?

I don't like Al Sharq, Ledgens Dubai looks like dog shit, and that ugly flower thing Trump put his name on. There is more..but I can't think of the names. Dubai should come up with more creative names for it's buildings. Burj Dubai (Building of Dubai)..blah. I would've named it Infinite.

just one question:
how can you hate living legends when you don't know what it will look like
we don't even have proper renders for it

concerning building names
yes, some names are stupid, but it's not worse than in any other city
i personally don't like giving tall buildings the housenumber and street as a name

If that's not the actual rendering then that's good. The one posted on the first page is ugly.

Regarding the names of certin buildings..in certin cases, it makes finding a building alot easier when the name of the building is the address. In LA for example, there is a skyscraper that is being turned into condo's as we speak. It's name is 1100 Wilshire. It's address is 1100 Wilshire. Aside from the fact that it sits on a 15 story parking lot and is shaped like a ble triangle, it's a snap to find.

But at the same time, I would like to think that certin buildings in Dubai would have a bit more flair when it comes to the names. For example Ocean Heights. Personally, I think it's a stunning building. It sits near the gulf and it's tall, blue, and built in a way to make it seem like it's blowing in the wind. Why not call it Wind? Or Breeze? Or something like that. I believe the name of a building should in a small way echo it's style, location, and enviorment. This goes for alot of buildings across the globe.

Arabian legends seems fine with me. It's just a big theme park.

The projects I don't like are a lot of the suburbia-type villa developments like lost city, jumeirah village, etc... Arabian ranches are OK but some of the other ones are pretty shite. Also I think there's just too much in Dubailand. There's no need for it being the size that it is. If it was only 1/3 the size it would still give the same boost to the tourism industry. Aswell, princess tower doesn't deserve its height

And al sharq tower How can you not like that?

yeah i dont like these masterplanned suburban housing developments either. they are very pretty and complete with manicured lawns etc, but are just too far from the city, and seem built for old people trying to retire. but its good that dubai's housing is diversifying to allow people who like these kinds of developments to live in such places.

maybe they have to keep a few good names for the next bunch of 5000 towers

I would like to say that the people living/working in Dubai are the luckiest people on earth .. you are witnessing something that very few of us will ever see .. it is incredible .. hell ! even Manhattan is starting to look insignificant

Keep the pics coming ...

I agree with malec about Falcon City. It looks too much like Vegas, and that alone makes it crappy. I also dislike the design of Al Burj.

settle down guys. lets not turn this thread into a clusterfuk.
Dubai is a "new" city and is just starting to grow. Its a baby, but what a grown up it will be in 20 years or so. It will never have the history like NYC of Chicago, but gotta start somewhere? NYC /chicago did, just happens they did in in 1890's not 1990's like Dubai.
I think we all should just sit back and watch the most amazing transformation you are going to see in our lifetimes.

The thing about al burj is it looks great at night but in the day...

it looks like a giant monolithic concrete block. If they could change some of the details then it should be fine
