I wouldn't really call it an urge. It's just that the floor to ceiling heights over there are higher than normal so a 70F tower will be around 300m whether it's a res tower or not.

Please don't troll in my thread.

Anyways, they look dirty because these are photos of the signboards next to their construction sites.

For example, here's the real render of the first tower:

Flo please forget it, I don't want this thread locked. I think the bigger render explains what jamie was talking about. The dirtiness is just dirt on the signboards

Hehe, I think the reason for some of the brits moaning is because it takes such a loooooooong time to get a handful of projects off the ground, be it skyscrapers, airports, or basically anything involving technological evolution! Slooooooow luddites! As everyone on here is enthusiastic about skyscrapers and technology, they lust for the wickedest projects, unfortunately 90% of the Brit population isn't, be it NIMBYs, beurocrats, or just plain moaners - things will always take thousands of times longer in the poor little island! Plus the weather is pretty crap (and its winter) and everythings so damn expensive!!! Can't blame them really!!!

BTW I'm British, and yes, officially jealous - Dubai has unrivalled construction BOOOOOOM at the mo, awesome projects - god I would love to check it out in 10 years time!

But now I'm gonna stand outside on this freezing cold night and have myself a nice doobie, than I'm going to bed!

What tower is this?

Multiplex wins $389m Dubai tower deal
December 5, 2005 - 7:19AM
http://www.theage.com.au/news/Busine...631167364.html

Multiplex Group Ltd has won a $389 million contract to build an 86-storey office tower in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Construction of the project, known as "the Index" is expected to begin next month and the contract will last three years.

The tower will have 25 levels of office space, 50 levels of parking, retail and other services, and 520 residential apartments and penthouses.

It is located at the Dubai International Finance Centre.

The design of the building will be handled by architects, Woods Bagot, and structural engineers, Gilchrist and Evans.

The project managers will be edara-APP, a joint venture between Dubai-based project managers, edara, and APP, an Australian project management company.

Multiplex secured the contract through its UAE subsidiary, Nasa Multiplex.

Go DIFC it's been a long time coming for the towers in there.

Well, I wouldn't say that. It's great that you guys are getting towers with the highest quality designs though (ie: london bridge tower). Pity about bishopsgate tower though. At least it wasn't reduced by 100m or something so design shouldn't really change.

BTW I live in Ireland and I doubt you can get any worse than this mentality: Here in Cork they want to put a height cap of 3 stories on all buildings in the suburbs and some people are moaning saying that they should reduce the cap to 2 storey (no joke)
Aswell it doesn't help when all the highrises proposed here look like crap

-------------------------------------------------------------

Anyway 86Ftower for Dubai? I have to check it out, might be 1 central park though.

Yes I checked out that 86F tower. It is one central park and it's nothing new. It is getting a redesign though I think.
